What can I say.....let me think??yes! I got it!!

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??!!

Both the movie-watching masses of Tamil Nadu, as well as the Expert Reviewers at Mouthshut like sureshmehcnit and the likes, seem to have put Silambarasan in Seventh Heaven by praising his movie no bounds. Poor Silambarasan doesn?t realize that it?s the classic case ?CHANE KE JHAAD PE CHADANA? which in simple English would mean ?To inspire someone who?s doing something wrong, so the higher he goes, the Harder he Falls?.

Coming to Manmathan, I read almost all reviews posted on MS. Watched the movie. Came to a conclusion. No matter how many brickbats I get, I have to speak my mind. Manmathan is a Hopelessly Bad Movie!

Manmathan, supposed to be Ghost Directed by Simbu (I don?t understand why they have to Ghost Direct a movie?! Afraid of the brickbats they would face if it were to tank?!), is an attempt at making something on the lines of Sihappu Rojakal (For those who don?t know, this one came almost 3 decades back, starred Kamal Haasan as the Pyscho Killer, and was lauded for having established a new Genre in Tamil movies).

Comparisons are imminent. Both with the above mentioned classic as well as contemporary Hollywood products like Valentine. As u must have guessed, Manmathan is NOWHERE near both!!

The story begins with Simbu in a hospital speaking with Mandira Bedi, who is supposed to be a Psychiatrist. He yells about people betraying while in love. She hugs him; he grabs her navel and wallah! We have our first song, complete with gyration, and our Simbu doesn?t leave any part of her body untouched.

Cut to Jyotika, who dreams about Simbu raping her. She goes some place, and guess what, Simbu lands up there. Wonder how/when/why they discharged him from hospital? Don?t even think about it!! He?s busy auditing reports for some company. And oh! I forgot, he has his own Intro song with Yana Gupta.

Cut to night club. Simbu spots a girl gyrating to disco music. Chats with her. She falls for him, they get into the car and wallah! While she?s grabbing him, blood flows from his nose?cut!

Jothika studies music, and spots Simbu there. Runs away yelling, and needless to say, he follows her. Confusions clear and she becomes his friend.

Cut to Simbu in a coffee shop. Overhears a girl talking to her boyfriend about leading a adventurous life even after marriage. Simbu talks to her, threatens her and forces her to kiss him. She agrees. They meet in the rain and u know what?! Simbu kisses away to glory. Forget Mallika Sherawat or Kamal Haasan, we have a new Champion Kisser!

Cut to Simbu and Jyothika attending Drums competition. Some rowdies get into Ladies toilet and needless to say, Jothika emerges with blood near her lips. Simbu is busy beating drums. Next he beats up all rowdies turn by turn.

Cut to a scene in the train. Simbu gets into a first class coach, only to find a girl sitting alone. Somehow, she?s attracted to him and while she grabs hold of him, blood starts trickling down his nose again?why?! Don?t even ask!

Cut to the underground sewers of Chennai. Simbu gets the girl?s dead body there. Puts it on some kinda griller and know what?! Girl into ashes in seconds! He writes the girls name on a small bottle, puts the ashes in it and leaves.

Cut to Jothika dreaming about Simbu, and here we go..one more song!

Cut to Jothika spotting Simbu with another girl in his Motorcycle. She complains to the police. Oh! I forgot to mention Koundamani and Atul Kulkarni who feature in Blink-And-Miss roles as Simbu?s Mama and the Police.

Cut to police Interrogating Simbu.

Cut to flashback. Theres another Simbu, a near bald one, who loves a girl, then realizes she?s cheating on him, kills her, hangs himself to death. Elder bro Simbu can?t bear this, sets out to kill all such girls. Oh I forgot to mention two songs?one featuring both singing outside the temple! And the other a replica of ?Devadhai Kanden?, from Kadhal Konden.

Phew!!

If this kind of Screenplay can be called SLICK, Fast, etc?then I really feel you ALL are joking around! Manmathan?s screenplay is Pathetic to say the least. Songs don?t blend with the Flow of the Story. Guys go look at Swades if you want to know what Blending Songs with Story is. And Please NOTE, Shankar?s Indian had a Similar Screenplay. Just think and you will realize!

Talking about story, it?s unabashedly inspired by lot of movies. Forget that, even the way the plot moves is pretty Ordinary. You can infact guess that he?s gonna kill some girls, get caught and then start explaining. Hence no points for that either!

Technically, lets see?.hmm?
Cinematography by R.D.Rajasekar is NO GREAT Shakes. I?ve seen him doing better job in Kaaka Kaaka.
Music and Background Score by Yuvan Shankar Raja isn?t Good either. Wonder if Simbu tinkered around here too!

Editing is BAD. Or let me say, it conspires with the Screenplay to give us a Bumpy Ride!
Is there any saving grace, u might ask?! Yes there is!
Simbu?s performance, while definitely not comparable to Kamal?s, stands out on its own. Its much better than the gimmicky stuff he used to do in his earlier films!
Jothika though looks tired, bored!

All in all, Manmathan is another Dud that has managed to Reign supreme at the Box-Office. I can only hope for the worst now.
