The Manipal Institute of Technology, better known as the ''Mighty Mighty MIT'' by its students and alumni is situated in the urbanized -rural hubbubs of South Canara in Karnataka. This was an institute built to provide quality education to avid students.
About 4 years back MIT was under the VTU university of Karnataka, after which it was made a deemed university and it came under the MAHE(Manipal Academy of Higher Education) university.As of my experience I would say that was a good move to improve the quality of education . But what happened was right the opposite. With the deeming, a new system of admission has been introduced in the institute. Students just have to give an entrance exam , if they get through then admission is secured. There is no importance given to the HSC marks. This system also has given way to management seats- I better quote this as ''Bribed seats''. Many students who don't clear the entrance pave their way into the institute by paying stupendous amounts of money to the management.
All this has seriously damaged the standard of education of the institute now. Rich kids with below average performance and whatsoever no seriousness now form the crux of the student population here.As an alumnus it seriously grieves me to watch such a great educational institute go to the dungeons.
