My best friend, Dionne, and I have been friends since 1991. We introduce each other to virtually everything. From people to alcohol, I can depend on Dionne to introduce me to only the best. (I wish I had such a good record!) It was no different when she introduced me to Malibu.

We were at a bar or something, and I just didn’t know what to drink. I was bored with just beer (BLASPHEMER!), and I didn’t want any mixed drink I had already tried. Dionne suggested a Malibu and pineapple. I quirked an eyebrow and let her order it for me.

I watched the bartender pour some pineapple juice and something from a white bottle with a palm tree on it into a tumbler over ice. The bar I worked at in college didn’t have this type of alcohol. I had no idea what it was. As my drink was served, I asked the bartender about Malibu. He informed me that it was a light coconut rum and tasted kind of sweet. Oh, he also looked at me like I had nine heads.

Dionne and I toasted something or other, as we usually do before we drink, and I sipped my Malibu and pineapple. WOW! It tasted just like a pina colada, without the crushed ice. It was sweet, light, smooth, and left a nice coconut aftertaste. I loved it.

Malibu is even nice as a shot, though just a little strong for me. (Personally, I’m a shooter girl.) It almost has a syrupy feel to it, although it isn’t that thick. It’s a mere 48 proof, but definitely a sipping drink (for me, anyway) because of it’s flavor. It’s sort of tropical, which makes it perfect for the summer.

Everyone I’ve introduced to Malibu loves it. the next time you go to a bar, try a Malibu and and pineapple. You won’t be disappointed!
