After owning Xylo for some time I started having problems with the gear shift. M&M people took 1 month to fix the problem.
However, I was given a loaner vehicle so I didnt had any issues with them. When I asked them whats taking them so long to fix the Gear box, they told that they first tried to fix the gear box but then decided to change it completely.
They also showed it to M&M R&D team and later replaced the whole gearbox for free. So I should say that M&M people are far better than Tata’s. Anyways, the best part if that the new Gear box is very smooth and I am loving this car more than ever for the following reasons: 1. Once, 4 of my friends were out for some furniture shopping.
We bought a centre table and 5 wooden boxes which I thought of taking in my Xylo, everyone except me and my friends thought that its not gonna be possible to take all this in the car. But, guess what, we somehow dumped everything in the car and came back to home without any problems. The car behaved as if there is nothing in it. It was absolutely in control.
- The mileage is getting better day by day. In my first review I said that I am hoping of getting atleast 13 kmpl in city and the car has proven it. 3. I have been driving this car for a while now and didn’t drove any of the sedans, hatches for a while, and I realised that those cars have to almost come to halt each and every time they come close to a hump and I used to just pass it without even thinking about them. Guys, I must tell that this car has a real potential of killing sedans from the market. However, it cant really replace them because it cannot beat a sedan in terms of speed.
All I can say is that I M&M guys are real gems. they have designed such a beautiful product that I feel proud to be an Indian. Updated on 31st Dec 2009 = Well, I own a Tata Indigo for the last two years and planned to go for a bigger vehicle considering my family and long term investment. Shelling out 10 lacs from your pocket on a depreciating liability is not a good idea but then we Indians don’t have a choice.
Anyways, So I called up Mahindra dealers which are on Bannerghatta road and they promised that they will contact me for a test drive which never happened. Dude, seriously speaking, they lost the customer there only. Later when the sales rep called me, I was not interested. However, that’s a problem with the dealership and not the car.
Later, I contacted Shireesh motors on hosur road and they were very proactive to sell this car. Pros: This car is meant for urban populace which is looking for a lot of power and convenience at the same time. I took the test drive on sarjapur road and have the following comments: 1. Very spacious and comfortable seating. I mean it’s just amazing. 2. Driver seat is also very well positioned and you feel as if you are driving a car. 3. Flat bed seats and the best part of Xylo, but in 8 seated versions, its only one flat bed seating. 4. I found black interiors to be better looking than beige ones, so I am gonna buy a Xylo with black interiors. Although, the sales rep told me that black in only available with certain variants/colors. 5. Mileage seems to be promising…. I am always looking out for the best possible mileage I can get from a car while driving, and in this case the meter was showing me 16 km/ltr. So I hope I will get at least 13 in city. 6. Third row can easily accommodate 3 people and the car also has AC ducts for the third row. 7. Car also has captain seats in the second row which can be reclined to a very comfortable angle.
Cons: This goes out to Mahindra people and every other vehicle manufacturer in India. Guys you need to understand that everyone loves a beautiful design even when the engine is best in class. Just take an example of Honda and Toyota. The outer looks are appalling, which could have been much better. Just take an example of Safari, it looks so good from outside, but sadly it comes out of Tata motors which believe in making every vehicle in a truck factory:) I also saw the new Scorpio in the Mahindra showroom and it has Cruise Control and very good looking front grill/bumper, hopefully Xylo will also come with these features later. Overall, I can only say that this is a very intelligently designed car and I am sure it’s going to go a log way…Hats off to Mahindra’s engineering.
