Hi,

I bought my Xylo E8 ABS in Nov 2009. It has done about 65, 000 km till date.

It is a very spacious and comfortable vehicle and ideally suited for my requirement where a family of 4 can sit comfortable with all the luggage safe inside or with our extended family(parents etc) -  a family of 8 can sit inside comfortably. But.

Since the beginning there have been quality issues with the material used -

First a window motor went and had to be replaced.

Then the voltage regulator was giving spikes of 15-18V causing bulbs to fuse, etc. Finally, the whole alternator had to be changed.

Then the mounting of the heat exchanger on top of the engine cracked and the whole heat exchanger unit had to be changed.

Till this point it was under extended warranty so most of the replacements were under the extended warranty though some of the stuff wasn't covered.

The plastics are of really poor quality - Power window's central switch on driver side has two broken switches - whole panel has to be replaced- costs Rs. 4500/- . The dashboard has cracked covers, The central console has cracked covers

Then the wheel hub bearing went unserviceable and the whole hub had to be replaced(cost a bomb as it has disc brakes and the bearing does not come separately).

The music system - a Nippon 2DIN system - has a known problem of the USB becoming u/s in almost new vehicle and it is not covered under warranty. Most of the service centres of Nippon do not have spares. Now that I am in Delhi it is OK as FM radio is available otherwise it had become a pain.

The reverse sensor got shorted - no replacement available in any dealer countrywide!

After 4 years the air conditioner stopped working(there was a gas leak from the heat exchanger coil under the dashboard(within days of the extended warranty expiring) - again a common problem in Xylo and Scorpio). The authorized  service centres do not have any air con technicians and outsource it to the local air conditioner mechanics. So it takes 2-3 days plus cost almost 1.5 times the cost as it also includes the profit and taxes the service centre has to pay. Anyway, got the coil replaced from the local air conditioning repair guy at a cost of 9000(including labour for opening the dashboard.)Then after about five months the compressor packed up. It was replaced along with the filter bottle and the front ac heat exchanger in front of the radiator for the ac(these have to changed as the trapped metals shavings from the damaged ac compressor entering the system will damage the  new compressor too. Cost me 19, 000/-  to replace the stuff including labour. The new compressor from the company was 24, 000 plus other parts and labour. But the gas has leaked again. Even if I go to the dealer, they are unwilling to give any guarantee for the ac. Why can Mahindra service centres not have air conditioning technicians if they sell ac vehicles?

The body has started getting rusted along the front driver door - there is now a large rusted patch - which will need bodywork and painting. No accident or other damage to the car in that area - so why the rusting?

BTW - a friend bought a Xylo E8 two years ago - the quality of plastics still not improved.

Though I like the height, spaciousness and power of the vehicle I still love the vehicle - these other issues have made me regret my decision to buy a Mahindra vehicle. I have finally decided to sell it whenever I have the money to replace it(with a Non-Mahindra vehicle).

Till then it is like a leach -  su*king away my money on a regular basis.
