I joined the MKU Distance Education program in BA History and have only had cause to regret it.
As with most educational institutes in India, they are not really bothered about imparting learning,but only in making sure the fees are collected.
The text books provided are the most godawful ones I have ever seen anywhere.Once you go thru them you wonder how any institution that calls itself a university can put out such material. They are riddled with grammatical errors, factual errors & are well nigh incomprehensible.They seemed to be written by people who had a very poor grasp of the English language.(The only exception to this are the Economics texts, which I found were excellent & well written).
They are a disgrace.
A list of reference books that the student can consult are given in each textbook.
However most of these are out of print & unavaible,atleast in Mumbai.
When I asked the "Student support unit" on whether I could arrange for these thru them, or of they could tell me where they might be available, they were extremely unhelpful & seemed astonished that I actually wanted to go thru reference books.They said all that was needed to pass were the textboks provided.Just write the minimum & you will pass.
In desperation I called up the MKU office in Tamil Nadu where a gentleman in the concerned department was even more unhelpful. He asked me to write a letter to the Director and cut the line before I had completed speaking.
I would advise anyone aspiring to serious study & geting a good education to refrain from joining up with the Distance Education courses of MKU. Perhaps the on campus teaching is better, judging by some of the other reviews of the university on this site.
It certainly cant get worse than Distance Education!!
