Madhurey - UthHeaven Music Review

The core team of Movie Magic’s Madhurey, namely Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Director Madhesh and music director Vidyasagar have made sure that they churn out some real fast paced commercial songs for this all out commercial masala movie. So we must not look much into the quality of the lyrics instead let’s just analyse whether the songs will become mass hits or super flops. Read on folks.

Madhurey starts with Machan paeru Madhurey sung with lots of energy by Shankar Mahadevan and penned by Kabilan. The usual tempo is maintained with lots of village beats thrown in but the lyrics are not even up to the mass hit standard. The tune is ok and beats may save this song. Pambara Kannu sung by Udith Narayan and Srilekha Parthasarathy is next.
 
This song is in the same league of Dimsu Kattai in Thirumalai. Good beats but the lyrics by Yugabharathi are a big let down. The song’s fortunes depends a lot on the picturisation and may become a hit if it is done well on screen. Elantha Palam follows this song and is in the same league. Sung by Tippu and Anuradha Sriram. Much better beats but more sorry lyrics from P.A. Vijay. This song will become more popular than the second one due to much better vocals.3 songs and all 3 will make you dance thanks to the catchy beats but will not become super hits.

Ice Katti sung by Karthick and Sayanara Philip is up next. P.A.Vijay does the lyrics once again and the song is much slower when compared to the fast paced numbers but slowly grows due to the better bgm programming. Lyrics are not good and the song once again will depend a lot on the picturisation. Finally after 4 fast paced songs we have one genuine melody from Vidyasagar. Titled Kandaen Kandaen sung by Madhu Balakrishnan and Sadhana Sargam. Vidyasagar touch is very eminent but the tune is not that great as his earlier melodies but this song comes as much needed relief to us.

So 4 fast paced dance numbers with some very mediocre lyrics and then one good melody. Vidyasagar disappoints in Madhurey. Even in Thirumalai he did a better job. Gillie was excellent but here he is not up to his previous standards. The lyrics are a big letdown. The songs will definitely suffer due to huge expectations and even if some become popular that will be due to the picturisation and not because of the music. Vijay has to do some serious thinking and start dishing out better films with better music.

This movie is a classical example just like Sammy - Arul, this one follows Gillie but sadly though the magic is missing in Madhurey. Vidyasagar needs to start all over again to prove once more that he is indeed capable of becoming the best commercial music director other than Deva.
