Shakespeare’s works can be broadly classified in to Tragedies, Histories and Comedies. Though there are many other themes these are the major ones. Macbeth is one of the best tragedies.
Plot Revealed:
The play develops several scenes as the play moves further. The theme revolves around the character of Macbeth and the flaw he had. The major reason for the downfall of Macbeth was his over greed and the endless temptations. His over ambitious nature brought about his downfall both physically and mentally. As the play unfolds Macbeth is a brave combatant. His rank and graciousness are of grand value, but the meeting he has with the awesome witches awakens in him a deep impatient aspiration.His wife Lady Macbeth waters Macbeth’s seed of ambition. She is a lady of grand Fortitude, as shown by her immediate determination for Macbeth to be King.
A simple outline of the story:
Duncan the king of Scotland is killed by his army general Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth. This he does after being tempted and cheated by the witches. After the presentation of the witches, Macbeth has a second thought about being the king but he is undecided about whether it is better to give way to the temptation presented or to wait for Fate to crown him. But his gluttonous wife tempts him and encourages him in doing so. The result of which Macbeth becomes impatient and this trauma finally end up fatal. Lady Macbeth also lands in an even gorier situation; unable to sustain the guilt she ends her life. The other people in the cast include Banquo who accompanies Macbeth when the witches prophesy about both of them. The other major characters include Malcolm and Donalbin [Duncan’s sons], Macduff the character who brings about the end of Macbeth.
One must take a glance at this tragedy to get the maximum effect of this masterpiece that brought about stunning success to its prolific writer William Shakespeare.
