Maatr is one of those films egaer to cash in on on the'women-centric' trend in Bollywood, they forget that even with dollps of stree shakti, you still need a story. An idealistic Delhi school Vidya Chauhan has a horrid husband while tryuing her best to deal with the world with a smile, she and her daughter are gangraped. The chief minister's son is among the culprits. Playing to the gallery, director ashtar sayed chooeses delhi and the politician-criminal-police nexus as his backdrop, much like Pink. It's interesting that they should add the daughter - I guess rape is more easily blamelss if there's child involved. Maatr then, isht estory of vengeful mother. To be very fair the filmhandles the subject of rape with sublety. The real problem is that the story says nothing new, and goes no where. As a result, even with all the emotion. it starts to get repetitive. Tondon does her role very well to her best. She's effective in parts. You can't help feeling that the she deserved better than a run of the mill revenge saga.
