I had a MTS non wifi prepaid data card. Although the rates are competitive, the speed was very very slow. The speed which was supposed to be upto 9.8 mbps hardly reaches 1mbps(mostly hovers around 0.5mbps), that too in a metropolitan city like Chennai. I stopped using this data card because of low speed. After few months, I needed to use this card as a stop gap arrangement. I made a payment through Freecharge to recharge. However, I was not able to use Internet and I did not get a response from Freecharge or MTS for three days telling about the reason. So, I had to recharge my other data card. I wrote several emails to MTS customer care and their Appellate authority for refund but they only replied that as per TRAI they cancelled my data card. I asked MTS according to which TRAI guideline they closed my data card but they did not reply. I asked MTS whether TRAI has authorised them to close customer data card without informing them(customers), they did not reply. I asked MTS, whether TRAI allows them to take payment for a data card without needing to provide service or refund the amount, they did not reply.


I complained several times to DOT and TRAI but they have also not bothered to provide solution to my complaint. It seems to me that DOT and TRAI are there to protect these companies and not customers. Here is a company about which customers are lodging complaint after complaint. In Mouth shut.com itself, 1121 customers have rated the customers slightly more than one star but these people don't really care. As long as DOT and TRAI see the other way, they don't need to do anything different. They can continue to provide low speed and rob customers. The only thing customers can do is to cancel their services and move to other service providers. I found that BSNL speed is very good and the rates are also competitive.
