Infrastructure

College has renovated all the buildings in the campus in the last 2 years. There is still some construction work going on… I guess it is the new management block. The auditorium is a massive 1200 seater. There is enough parking space inside the campus. The hostel has 1 and 3 seater accommodation inside the campus. They have both attached and non-attached baths, but there are enough common toilets on the either side of every floor, must be to keep the costs low. Every student is provided with an individual bed, cup-board and a study table. All the beds are placed parallel and not bunker-style. I wish if they could install hot/cold water dispensers on each floor.

The college has a low-wind speed tunnel on the campus as a part of Aeronautical Engineering Lab, they have also set up a center of excellence with Quest Global Engineering (diversified global engineering services company) to do combined research and train students on the campus. They plan to train students and hire them every year. They have also promised to train students on CAD-CAM and other software’s at a subsidized cost.

The library is well equipped with enough subscriptions to online journals. The gym is yet to be commissioned, but it is built as per international standards. There is a concrete basketball court, and a big playground which is used for football, cricket and Volleyball practice.

There is a guest room and an ATM in the campus. I have heard rumors about a small bank opening a office on the campus too.

Culture:-

This college is pretty conservative in terms of discipline. The classes start early at 8:00 A.M and ends at 4:00 PM. The students have to manage their time really well here. The college also has a mentorship system wherein every student has a mentor assigned from the faculty who keep in touch with the parent/guardian w.r.t their attendance and academic performance.

The college also conducts around 40 hrs. of Personality Enhancement Classes every year, wherein the students are trained on their soft-skills, aptitude and technical knowledge. Initially I felt the training classes would be very boring; but soon found out they were pretty interesting as they are more focused towards working on the overall personality of the student. Of course these courses will always be placement centric but I personally feel it has enhanced me as a person and I will present myself better in the future.

Faculty:-

Most of the faculty is well qualified and there is regular feedback taken from the students on them. The HOD’s have been here for some time in college, Couple of departments has HOD’s who have been serving MVJ for over 2 decades

Placements

The placement cell has put in lot of efforts to get new companies in the campus. When I first came in about 2 years back; the placements were going very slow. Now the placements are being closely monitored, after one of the placement tests it was found that the students had a hard time transitioning from offline to online model of testing, resulting in time management issues.

To address this issue the college faculty has developed online test software which has helped students get familiar with the online test format. This has helped students to answer more questions as they are able to manage time better.

They have also introduced meet your HR program part of their Campus to Connect program for 6th and 7th semester Students.  During one of these programs we have been taught how to crack the tricky questions during the HR interviews.  They helped us understand the logic behind such questions and how to answer them well. The panel members who have been previously associated with the Industry have helped us too.

Canteen .

The food served here is like the ones served in most of the Darshinis in Bangalore.  It is clean and hygienic but over a period of time; you get bored of the same cuisine served here. The saving grace is that the college management has given students an option to select the menu themselves every month. I wish if they could introduce more variety as currently they serve  North Indian, South Indian and  a little bit of Chinese food. However, I am a fan of the chats, Gobi manjuri (;-)) and the filter coffee here. If you are looking for a quick bite the Coffee Day kiosk is handy.
