I am an employee of
Siemens, India and Siemens employees travel across the world very frequently as this is a MNC and has allies worldwide. Most of the allied companies in
various countries have
official contract with Luftansa to arrange the travel assistence to their employees.
Recently Siemens have arranged a similar assignment wherein I visited
Siemens VDO - Regensburg, Germany for a month during
May - June along with my colleagues.
Siemens, while sending employees on assignment, takes every care to educate their employees about the
rules and regulation followed during the travel. We were educated about the luggage limitation very well. It was clear to all of us that we can carry a check in luggage of
20Kgs and cabin baggage of
8Kgs. Apart from these, we are allowed to carry a
document bag (to carry passport and other details) and
Laptops (if any).
It was also told to us that, there is a privilage (stated in the
Luftansa official website), wherein if a
group of people are travelling from a
company, they are allowed to check in together, which may help the travellers if one of them have a slight over wieght luggage. The over weight luggage can be compensated with the underweight luggage in the group.
While travelling from
Bangalore to Munich, we had a good flight . But the issue happened during the
return journey to
Bangalore.
Couple of our collegues who returned on 27th May have faced a huge issue with the
check in counter personnel in
Munich. The issues are
1. Even though our Siemens colleagues were travelling from Munich to Bangalore, they were
not allowed to check in together.
2. They were
forced to suject their
document bags for
weighing.
3. On questioning the personnel, why they were not allowed to check in together in group and
why the document bags are being subjected to weighing, they we bluntly told on their face
that
they will not allowed to fly if they argue.
Above all, all the employees were told that their individual baggages weigh
36Kgs each. How ironical it is to believe that the people who were educated about the baggage limitations would pack their luggages exactly 36Kgs each!!!!. Not a point less or more than 36Kgs. Precise!!
Everyone of them were charged with
180 Euros (
6 Kgs Overwieght, with
30 Euros penal fee per Kg). These people were first timers to go out of thier country. They had bought valuables for their beloved. They
could niether thro the items nor they
could bare the penal fee.
Especially when the people from the developing countries like India go out to the most developed countried like Geramny, they try to save the money from the remuneration provided to make thier life back home financially sound. When these kind of things happen to them, I would say, it is a big
injustice.
Because, I travelled back to India the next week after these guyz. I was alone. There was not group with me to check in together to compensate the over luggage. I weighed my luggage before starting and it was
5 Kgs over the specified limit. My check in luggage alone was
26.4 Kgs. They weighed only my checkin luggage. It was
28.8 Kgs.
How come the weight of the same luggage in
Munich differs from the wieght of the same luggage in
Regensburg? Does these places have
different specific gravity and the
weight varies? then this is the
eighth wonder of the world and should be brought to light.
I had a cabin luggage of
5Kgs. I was just
warned to take care of my luggage weight the next time. I carried
35 Kgs of total luggage without considering my document bag which weighed around
4 Kgs.Moreover, it is described in the Luftansa baggage policy that
one cabin luggage is allowed per traveller. I carried
two. No One bothered to ask me.
I would like to ask the readers that why this discrimination has been done with the travellers.
1. Is it because of the country they belong to (developing countries like India)?
2. Is it because of the color of their skin (brown)?
3. Is it because of the money they pay for the ticket (Economy / Business)?
Further I would like to ask the following things to Luftansa,
1. If Lufthansa, dont allow to check in together, why did they
publish it in their website?
2. Dont Lufthansa have any particular set of working instructions to their Check in counter
personnel?
3. How come the working instructions for different check in personnel are different? Why did
they allow me with over weight luggage? Or there is any flexible working instructions
which says the personnel can levy the penalty as per their will and wish? Is it not illegal to
allow over weighed luggage by some irresponsible check in counter personnel?
4. Do you think the justice being done by penalizing us for over baggage and had already
allowed other travellers with over weight luggage to check in? We all pay the same ticket
fare, they why is this discrimination?
5. How come all the 3 guys have 36 Kilograms of luggage? Do they mean that all these
people were carrying the same weight i.e., 6 Kilograms above the specified limit?
6. Does the working instructions for the checkin counter personnel changed within a week?
Does the working instructions changes depending on the mood of the personnel? Does
the working instructions changes depending on the appearance of the Traveller?
7. Why did they never asked me to weigh the cabin bag and document bag?
8. How did they allow just the check in luggage of 28 Kilogram?
9. How come weights do differ by a huge difference of 2 Kilograms from Munich to
Regensburg?
This cant be digested. Im not blaming anyone here on the basis of their skin, nationality, religion or origin. All I am asking is why this Injustice?
