''Oh! Yeeooowwww'', I have seen my mom scream when suddenly a brown creepy creature darts at surprising speed out of the kitchen cupboard and disappears as fast as it had appeared.

Now to tell you the truth, my plight is no different. I would nearly run and jump or perch myself on the table, when I would see this darting creature. I had a bad time once when the window was open while I was watching the ''Piranha'' - flying fishes that would kill, on HBO, when suddenly a brown unidentified flying object entered the room and fell right on me. Oh! The frenzy that I was in, badly trying swaying my hands and legs, worked and the creature was off me. It flew and disappeared behind the curtain. Meanwhile I was gasping for fresh air, trying to remember what happened. Whoosh! I picked up my industry standard safety shoe and decided to challenge this alien. There it was on the curtain. I moved the curtain and leaped to the floor as it flew past me and landed on the table, from where it had a good view of me. ''No, Ameet, don't be scared'', I assured myself. Gripped my weapon, the shoe, and stealthily and slowly moved towards the table. There it was, staring right at me, gnashing it's lips and moving its antenna in a wild fury - a 4 inch long brown Cockroach. It moved to the left. I moved with Bruce Lee speed and wham! I lifted the shoe and there it was lying still in pool of white yucky mess. The antennae twitched for some time and so did the legs and then....may God not bless its soul.

From then on my confidence against cockroaches grew profoundly. Now I would open cupboards and spray Baygon spray and grin sadistically at the twitching half dead bodies, begging for me to kill them instantly. But then my mom brought a remarkable product from the market and I could now peacefully log on to MS to write about it.

The product in spotlight is Laxman Rekha from Midas Hygiene Industries Pvt. Ltd.. I found it amusing. For Non-Indian members, I would like to brief that Laxman, the brother of Lord Rama was entrusted the task of protecting Sita, Lord Rama's wife, while Rama was away after a golden deer (demon in disguise). But then Laxman was lured by calls by the demon, in the voice of Rama, asking for help. So he drew a circle around Sita to protect her. Anybody attempting to cross this circle would char to death. This line of protection was called Laxman Rekha.

Now today it amazes me as the legend lives in our households. The product is basically a thick white chalk - a single piece costing Rs. 15. Of course the chalk has certain ingredients that I am not aware of but my guess is Propoxur or Cyllethrin or Allethrin. But the procedure is just like the epic goes. We draw a few i.e. 2-3 thick parallel lines just around the gas cylinder, basin, drainage openings or some such creepy smelly locations where cockroaches live and prosper. That is all. Of course the pack mentions that the best time to draw the lines is at night.

I found it hard to believe and had ruled the product as nonsense money minting gimmick. How could a few lines just kill a 3 -4 inch creature that can easily walk or rather dart over it? And yet when we tried this product, the next morning we did found several of these creatures lying on their backs, belly up and completely still - DEAD!!

I still fail to understand and hence, I term it as ''MAGIC''. And now we don't have cockroaches at all. But yes, be sure to wash your hands with soap, preferably Dettol, after using this chalk and keep out of reach of children, who may mistake it for a normal chalk.

I encourage all readers (who have cockroaches lurking in dark recesses of your house), to try Laxman Rekha and watch the mythological epic still live, right in your household.
