Landmark very recently opened its store in Gurgaon. After being thoroughly impressed with the Gurgaon store, I recently visited the Bangalore store expecting the same experience. To be fair, I must say that the Bangalore store is much bigger than the Gurgaon store, and has an amazing collection of books and everything else you can possibly want! But the problem is...you can't find anything!
The books section looked like the footpath stalls you have in Old Delhi where they just dump everything and you can buy every book for 50 bucks! Now, I am not sure whether it was the customers who has strewn the books around, or it was a reflection of the bookstore's apathy to maintain their own displays! I saw a table in the middle of the display section with books strewn on it like everything was on 10-rupee-sale.
I am an avid book collector and love sales, but don't like the sale-atmosphere when I am buying from a bookstore like Landmark! ...And to top it all, there was no customer service associate in sight. You would expect to see some Landmark people around to assist you on a busy Saturday! Either they were too busy, or simply never bothered to turn up! The few I saw behind the counter were too busy talking to each other! My views, not the best of book-shopping experience. But if the management pulled up their sleeves and started work, they could still put things in order. I would start by reviewing all the people who work for Landmark. Except for the personnel at the tills, no-one else works.
