We had gone to this coffee shop of the Regent for a celebration (it was my ma-in-laws birthday). But, Regent really did its best to spoil it all! We went in late and were given a table. Before
we could start, we were told, very sternly, that we must hurry up and finish since the buffet would close at 3:30 (it was 3 oclock). We requested that the buffet should be extended for 15 minutes more or so. We had certainly not come there to hurry up. We were expecting a leisurely lunch in a 5-star, else we would have gone to an Udipi joint!! However, the staff refused to co-operate. They were also very rude (not the way they should be, in a good hotel).
We walked out without having any food there, it was SO BAD. The next time I went there with some friends. This time, we went early and hence there were no problems. The buffet was very good and the quality was excellent. But again, we faced a problem with the service. The service was extremely slow and a simple glass of water would take about 10 mins to be served. Also, the waiters seem very disinterested in their work, I dont know why.
Also, if you are going there for the view (from outside, it looks as if the Regent must have a GREAT view of the sea etc.), dont make the mistake! The view is only for the people who stay in the hotel. They very rudely forbid you to go into the landscaped garden (outside the cafe) from which you can see the view. It seems that only people staying in the hotel (mostly foreigners) can go there! I think it is shameful!
Anyway, I would definitely not recommend this place. If you want a good 5-star buffet, go to town (Oberoi or President), where service is excellent.
