I am a proud owner of a NV Spl 1998 model. It has clocked 30,000 kms.I have riden it in Goa for around a year and a half too and it was marvellous driving it in those wide and well laid roads. The top speed I have managed is 80 kms.I was bit weary to try further THe scooters comfortable cruising speed is 60 kms/ltr on good roads.I have riden it on good roads, on off country stony roads and it has never ever let me down. Not a single flat tyre even(touch wood)The mileage I get is arnd 48 to 53 Kms/ltr.The engine is very smooth and silent. The gear change is superb.I start the scooter with the choke and it starts with a single kick.I have fitted halogen on the head lamps, very effective.I would advice all Vespa owners to do so as it very bright and effective not that the ordinary bulb cannot, but one can force those glaring head lights from 4 wheelers to dip their lights.THe Vespas electricals are damn good.I have not changed a single bulb of the indicators till date inspite of using it always. The battery is not required under normal circumstances unless and until one wants a electric start(which according to my opinion is a total waste of money and added maintenance of a battery)This is because a Vespa starts with a single kick when used in conjunction with the choke( a scooters inherent design ie horizontal type of fuel flow to engine makes it inevitable to either use a choke or 'bend' it) and no bending mind u like a bajaj. The shocks are decent although one cannot expect the motorcycle level of play in the front ones(shock)I heard there was a lot of problems in the nitrogen shocks which Vespa introduced a little while back. The nitrogen cylinder used to break off.Hence LML has gone back to the good ol'shocks which they have been using. The braking is excellent when both brakes are used, but for users of only the rear brakes they might have to tighten the brakes once in a while to decrease the play.

Maintenance wise just change the engine oil every 2500 kms though the manual advises for every 4000 kms and use branded 2T oil instead of relying on 'loose oil' from the petrol bunks. Also service the vehicle after every 2000 -2500 kms for smooth running. No problems with the spark plug if one uses branded 2T oils.

It is very comfortable to ride and has the maneouvrability of a motor bike once one gets used to riding it.It has excellent pickup(it can race all the 100 cc 4 strokes available in the market) and hardly requires gear shifts when it running. The torque obtained is good and flat at all engine rpm levels.

The advantages of a scooter over a bike is that one can carry small sundry items in the box without having to rely on the back bags as in a bikeand good amount of luggage in the front

To sum it up it is a real work horse
