LG G 1500 is d latest GSM model from LG which I am sure u wouldn?t have heard off.

With GPRS, Polyphonic ringtones, Free Handsfree kit, neck strap the model costed me around Rs.4,800 /-. What?s more there was a scratch card with a prize & I got a PROVOGUE TSHIRT as prize.

LOOKS: The phone looks gr8. I have steel silver coloured model with a combination of dull blue. It looks like a costly phone although its not. The phone weighs 92 gms & has dimensions 109x42.2X20 mm with an internal antenna. The phone is slightly broad in the middle then from the top or bottom. All in all the looks wise the phone is gr8. The place for the neck strap is at the back side of the top. The data and the charger port are at the bottom in the middle while the hands free port is at the top left handside in the middle. The layout is similar to Samsung R220.

KEYPAD: The keypad is made of some metal material. I don?t think it?s plastic. The keypad is divided into 2 parts. The upper part consists of the soft keys and the call accept-reject keys seeming connected to the display while the lower keypad consists of the number keys. The soft keypad consists of two keys exactly below the display. Below them are the call accept and power keys.

The two arrow keys are placed in the middle. A third key: cancel is placed in the middle. Next come the number keys. They are organized as rows similar to 3315 but are easier to operate. The symbols are embossed on the keys so u need not worry of the numbers being erased any time. The fonts are large enough and easily visible. The backlight is Blue in colour.

Key Functions: The top right side key directly allows u to access the Phonebook in the idle mode. The Top left key allows accessing the menu. The top arrow keys in the idle mode directly allows accessing the names in the phone book. The down arrow key in the idle mode allows to read the msgs i.e. u get an option to select text msg, voice mail, email or scheduler. When u select the menu using the top left key then the arrow keys provide menu navigation. The Call Accept key is placed below the menu key. The Cancel key serves as a shortcut to access the net browser. The power key is located to the right of this key and it serves dual purpose.

Pressing it continuously will turn on/off the phone and it can also be used as a Cancel key by pressing once. The silent mode can be activated directly by using * key. The advantage here is that the phone supports profiles but in Nokia phones we have access it form the menu or by pressing the power key & selecting them but here we can directly activate the silent mode so it comes quite handy in time shortage situations. So I must say here that LG has done a gr8 job in the organization of the keys as well as assigning the key shortcuts.

BATTERY: The battery is Li-Ion which can work up to 200 hours in standby mode (the company says so), and upto 3 hours when talking. It works for 2 days easily when fully charged keeping the standby time less.

DISPLAY: The display is monochromatic and graphical. Its resolution is 128x64 pixels. Four text lines and once line for service needs can be displayed at once. The display?s backlight is Blue and is strong enough to be used a torch (the major reason why I like blue displays).

MENU: The main menu can be accessed by pressing the top left key. Icons are not animated. All sub-menus are arranged in lists. Key number navigation is supported. Press the C key will access upper menu level. Menu scrolling is done with the help arrow keys.

There is no separate menu for phonebook so the menu can directly accessed by the left key with functions like to Search, Add new, Speed dial, Voice Dialing, Caller Groups, Copy, Delete and the usual memory settings. A new feature which is known as Caller Groups is given here which I think is present only in the high end fones. The fone allows setting up 7 groups which includes 20 members. Then u can assign group ringtone as well as group icons (18 diff. Icons)) to the particular group. 200+ Sim memory phonebook entries are possible.

Messages: 117 SMS can be stored in the phones memory. T9 is present. The phone supports long messaging 1024 characters. Character counter is present. We can also add new words to the dictionary. Msgs can also be sent in Symbols, Number, English languages. 11 templates are present which can be modified. The menu comprises of Inbox, Outbox, Cell Info service, Voice msgs, Namecard (Don?t know what that?s used 4) and the usual settings menu. One major advantage here is that if u want send msg as numbers then we can directly select number menu so that we don?t have press continuously the number key to get the reqd. digit.

Call Register: It provides a list of Missed calls (10), Rcved Calls (10), Dialed Calls (20), Call time, Call cost and GPRS info with a list of data sent, rcved etc.

There is common call list i.e. which shows dialed, rcved and missed calls altogether so it works like recent dialed, missed and rcved all in one which can be accessed by pressing the call key in the standby mode. This is a very useful feature.

Tones: This is one area where I was dissatisfied. The phone has polyphonic ringtones but 15. 5 empty slots are provided which make the total to be 20. Ringtones are less in number. The ring volume although polyphonic is extremely loud so u r sure to hear in crowded places as well. Ringtones can be downloaded coz its GPRS phone although u need to activate it by using the software. I don?t have the software so am not able to download the polyphonic ones. Although it can download Nokia compatible ringtones so if a monophonic ringtone is sent to this fone it plays polyphonic so I have filled the 5 empty slots with converted ringtones. The vibrating alert is also strong and easily felt. Mind u no composer is present.

Profiles: The phone has preset 5 profiles (Vibrate only, Quiet, General, Loud and Handsfree) which cannot be renamed although can be personalized. Vibrate only and Handsfree cannot be modified and for others we can personalize them.

Settings: This menu contains all the settings consisting of Alarm, Clock, Date & Time, Phone, Network, Security settings are present here. The reset setting is also present here. The phone setting consists of Display, Serial Port (whether Fax or GPRS and Data) and Language. Display settings consist of Screensaver, Welcome Note, Backlight time and also LCD contrast etc.

Call Divert: Call divert is given as a separate menu item becoz the fone can also receive FAX calls. Usual call divert settings are present here.

Scheduler: Calendar and Schedule settings are present here. Alarm can be set which can be repeated. Schedule can be repeated once, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. Memo settings r also present.

Fun & Tools: Consists of Games, Unit converter which converts measurements into units. Length, Area, Weight and Volume can be converted into units with it. There is calculator and World time as well. 3 games are there Stone Axe, Mobile Hawk and Crazy race.

Internet: WAP browser is present here and Internet Surfing can be done. Homepage can be set along with Bookmarks too. There are 5 profiles which can be personalized here. Don?t confuse it with the user profiles. These r WAP profiles in which u can set homepage, image, connection type, secure setting, gateway info, data settings etc all are present here. Gateway IP address and data transfer speeds can also be set.

Alrite so this concludes my long rvu (as usual) on LG G1500. With the features it offers at its price tag I m sure it?s a good buy. I m using it since 1 month and I am pretty satisfied with its performance. Let?s see how it performs in the long run.
