A few months ago, I decided

to watch this movie. I wasn’t exactly sure what to make of it; but after this movie, everything is at ease. My decision? Rubbish. The film starts off with Aishwarya Rai (armed with oodles of make-up and bouncy ringlets) who portrays Diya, a girl who has lived with her father in a small town for years. She has come to Mumbai to pursue her studies.

Please, haven’t we heard this tune already? She is staying with some friends of her father’s, played by Rati Agnihotri (with the same expression as ever) and Om Puri. The bad thing is that she despises their -shudder- naughty son Arjun, played by a grimacing Vivek Oberoi clad in sunglasses which he continuously adjusts.

Arjun and his father, otherwise known as Mr. Khanna, are pranksters. Rati Agnihotri keeps telling them off, with her index finger prodding accusingly. Arjun plays pranks on Diya, and disrupts her studies. After some more fun and games, he follows her when she goes back home to her small town.

Her father is finally introduced, and then follows the introduction of Amitabh Bachchan as an egoistic, over-smart, loud old man. Don’t be offended; Amitabh Bachchan is an excellent actor and has made many good films. But he wasted himself in this movie, as the man who runs an orphanage with a dozen kids who try to play the same prank on him every morning.

Enter the high class drama now, get rid of the fun and games! It all starts when a couple come to the orphanage to adopt. As soon as the child in mind is shown to be handicapped, they practically scream as though they were being followed by Anurag’s ghost. But Arjun doesn’t let them go without spouting dialogues with his nostrils flaring enough to give Sangeeta Ghosh a run for her money.

Then enters Suniel Shetty, and follow the long discussions and lying awake at night thinking: Do I love Diya, or is it just because she reminds me of a puppet with a wig of ringlets that I had when I was a baby?. There are several ’hints’ dropped as to what the ending is going to be, taking the ’surprise’ out of ’surprise ending’.

Of course, I was also made to listen to the songs. Some I can’t even remember, but some are so horrific that even if I try to forget them, I can’t. No No. I heard quite a few people humming this song, whereas I just didn’t seem to find No No, followed by three words, and then yeah yeah yeah etcetera catchy. Main Hoon was just a boring song in a boring film, which was sung without a proper tune in the background. Aao Na’s words at least make sense. But this song gets a bit dragged at times.

So overall, this movie is boring and dragged. I would definitely not recommend it, but if you are one of the people who loved Khushi (yes, I’ve met some!) then you will like it. A lot.
