As
a viewer you should be ready to make some kurbaan. Even I, a ready-to-be-pleased spectator grumbled while watching (shh… I vote for the duo - Kareena-Saif).
Few among the many peeves:
The meeting and falling-in-love scenes were not absorbing at all. You have to constantly tell yourself that Avantika and Ehsaan are lecturers, despite the ubiquitous staff room. And would be thankful to the quick clip in a song where Avantika scribbles on the board, with her eyes riveted on her lover.
You might wonder why Ehsaan doesn’t bother to check call history in the mobile (yes,he would disconnect telephone but not the victim’s mobile), or why you don’t see Avantika teaching in the American university or even getting ready to work regularly (her ID as a professor is just verbally reiterated).
A tad more attention to the details would have made it a great movie.
Anyhow (cribs apart), the story of the cul-de-sac would have grabbed you by the chair within minutes.
The political commentary on who is a terrorist, within the walls of an American class room may not be an eye-opener, but it is definitely a bold step for an Indian movie. Like a dutiful Hindi film it will not disappoint you on its love quotient. Two major male characters make unorthodox decisions, all for love. Still it is more of a terrorism-movie.
The much-hyped steamy scene is remarkable for its aesthetic and all’s-fair-in-love-and-war charm; and a woman is at it again.
Avantika is Kareena’s best performance yet. Saif has done justice to his role ( Ek Hasina Thi connection would have come handy). The rest of the cast too, fit in comfy like a jigsaw puzzle.
Go catch it with reservation!
