After opening an account in Kotak Mahindra Bank, I was given a RuPay debit card. Well this is actually a pain, because RuPay cards are very limited in usage. They cannot be used in almost 70% of the places and websites. Websites like Amazon( .com), eBay, dBrand don't work with RuPay cards. And no international website works with RuPay cards.
Also, I was not able to pay for my subscriptions on iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play, Netflix and many other places.
Tired and frustrated, I went to the bank and applied for a MasterCard. It took 2 whole months for the card to arrive, and it was a very long delay considering the fact that other banks do it within 2 weeks.
Now, another big problem that I faced was that there are no Kotak Mahindra ATMs. And if I withdraw a large amount of money( more than 15000) from any other ATM, I have to pay high extra charges, which are always more than 1200 rupees. This is very bad and frustrating. Such a thing should not exist at all. I don't face the same problem with my PNB card.
Well, apart from the cards, there are some other problems that I faced. Firstly, there are very few branches of this bank. Only one in my city to be precise. This makes thing inconvenient.
Also, there is no cash deposit machine in this bank. You have to manually stand in the line and deposit cash at the counter. This has a few disadvantages. Not only does it take more time and manpower, but also, when you deposit using machine, balance is instantly updated, however such is not the case with manual deposit. So whenever I had to give some urgent payment, I had to wait for my balance to be updated.
All in all, I would strongly urge not to make an account in this bank.
