The earlier King Kong movies thrilled all the audience of its times. It was about
a giant ape ( kong ) and his urge for companionship, his finding a companion in
a beautiful blonde , Ann Darrow
and the extent to which he would go to keep his
companion to himself.
Needless to say , due to lack of technology , the ape looked artificial and so
did all the other special effects that were added.
The new movie , King Kong (2005 ) , had amaising special effects. The ape looked
so real. Inspite of his hideous and scary appearance . The projection of him
risking his own life to save his companions filled our hearts.
It all starts when an ambi
tious producer Carl Denham embarks upon a journey of
a lifetime to a mysterious skull island which is as scary as it is primitive.
It had huge life forms from killer insects to dinosaurs and needless to mention
our very own Kong.
All hell lets loose when Ann Darrow ( played by Naomi Watts ) is kidnapped
and is given away to the ape. Thus begins the journey to find her and meet
creatures of all kinds. The visual effects are so mindblowing and the scene
of a stampede caused by veggie dinasaurs and of the Kong fighting with so
many T rexes to save our heroine were simply out of the world experiances.
At first - comical, towards the end - more depth is revealed in his character as
Carl Denham shamelessly exploits Kong. Adrian Brody was also outstanding as the
screenwriter that falls in love with Naomi Watts character Ann Darrow. As for
Watts, she showed her versatility as an actress in certainly the biggest action
role shes played to date. The effects on the island were AMAZING as were the
action sequences...the monsters and creatures that the director created were
as terrific as they were terrible.
If the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy cemented Peter Jackson as a director
of the highest order and made him the new king of the world, KING KONG
seals his position as a Director and eliminates any trace of doubt that he may
have been a 3 hit wonder.
It did have its share of goof ups though .
The ice on the pond is strong enough to support Kongs massive weight and bulk, but Ann is wearing tropical (warm weather) clothing, and no jacket. To have ice thick enough to support a 25 foot gorilla, the outside temperature would have to be close to 20 below zero for a considerable length of time. Temperatures that cold would cause frostbite in about 45 seconds at maximum and death in about two to five minutes to anyone wearing only warm weather clothing and no jacket.
An absolutely amaising family movie ( tho very small kids might get scared of
the animals fighting scene ).
A must watch for everyone !!
