I bought my'beast' in 1991. KA 05 H8391. Khivraj Motors. Petrol used to cost Rs 11 then. Still remember the sales person'Ms Jaya' who was very polite. It was so damn good for the first year. Ride quality and handling were the best. You could bet your life on the brakes and the electricals were top notch. Mileage was 50+. The MRF tyres/tubes, Amco Battery, bulbs and seat were so good, they lasted almost 9 years. Yes, the original set lasted 9 years!

It was magnificent. My friends from college and from down our street, who owned HH CD 100s would beg me for a ride. Khivraj Service was good those days. So was Auto Assembly, Hanumanthnagar. I could trust the latter blindly. Harish, the mechanic near KR Park would sometimes service as well, but his bills were huge as he was ex-Team TVS Racing.

But the troubles started after the first service, though I was a careful rider. The parts would break down often, but being an indulgent rider I spent a fortune on it. I paid 27, 000 on-road for the bike and maintenance must have cost the same. Those were the days when patience was in abundance and the Bangalore roads, empty. Wish I could turn the clock back.

Finally, I sold the bike in 2003, in rust-free condition, after giving it a fabulous overhaul which cost Rs 7000, for Rs 11000. The engine was like new.
