Quaint - the word spontaneously sprung to my word as soon as we reached Kasauli.
Driving through a series of isolate turns and curves through many a picturesque sights,
we reached the barricade that one has to cross to enter kasauli. Having reached after a long journey, we were keen to quickly retreat into our hotel Alasia International. It is one of the oldest hotels of the place which was patronised by the Britishers during their rule.
The rooms with its own discrete entry had a colonial touch to it and ours was done in shades of green ... with a fireplace of our own, we were soon cosily set up for a relaxed night to gear up for our excursion the day after.
Next day rose with a myriad of expectations and began our exploration of the place. Small shops lined the little mall that Kasauli has. Cobbled roads excited us to explore even further. The weather was such that even those who dont like to walk would have been tempted to walk. Exquisite little ornaments hung in one of the shops , which i later discovered was a shop that had been there since the times of the Britishers.
It is said that the British officials developed Kasaule as their retreat in India. it was their place to relax and refresh. The quaint little streets lined with cosy cottages and beautiful houses on a slope on the side of the road were so endearing that one just kept on going! Even Khushwant Singh could not resist this little place and owns a house on the slopes.
To take a break, we had a lazy breakfast in the warm soft sun at the terrace of Kasauli resorts. Kasauli resorts also has its own trail where the more adventurous can find action.
Finally, to get a bit of the action, we trecked our way to Monkey Point to the hanuman temple. This place is known for fulfilling the wishes of many.
While one and half day was good, the place could acually get to you if you overstay unless you are in a large group or you love being alone.
