Its a beautiful destination for all but particularly for people living around Kasauli. We are from Chandigarh and go to hills for weekends quite often.
You must travel by your own vehicle to enjoy
most. Coming from Chandigarh you have to cross two bottlenecks, as far as traffic is concerned. One is Pinjore, the famous Pinjore Gardens, and Kalka, thats where the broad gauge ends you need to take narrow gauge train , if planning to go to Simla by train.
Once you cross these hurdles you enter Parwanoo, thats Himachal Pradesh. So from UT, Chandigarh you cross over to Haryana and to Himachal Pradesh. Then onwards the Hills start and take you around on your vehicle. The first thing tourists will like enjoy is Timber Trail, its a hotel with cable car taking to a hill top on the other side of Ghaggar River.
You move ahead and reach Dhalli, a lace famous for two things, Chicken ka Achaar and Drinks, hard, semi-hard or soft, to pick-up for you Picnic, if you have missed to carry.
We normally carry our food basket with all the necessities to spend day on hills. You come across narrow gauge track along road side and if lucky, will see train also with passengers waving at you. In the months of june till sept-oct, you get bhuni hui challi, roasted corns, on road side which adds to fun. We came across Anupam Kher once having Corns on road side, it was pleasant meeting. He belongs to Simla, thats what i came to know that day, quite often travels by road from Chandigarh. Having corns there is itself an attraction.
Then you reach place called Dharampur, thats where you take turn towards Kasauli. You have famous Gyani Ka Dhaba here for it serves both veg and Non-veg. I am a semi veg. because i like serve non-veg. but dont prefer for myself. I have tried number of times, but then its difficult. There are now many fast food chains like Dominnos and some local outlets also available. earlier there used to be only Gyani-Ka-Dhaba.
From here there are two ways leading to place called Sanawara, famous for Sanawar School there onwards you head to Kasauli. We take the rear rout which goes from behind Gyani-Ka-Dhaba and stop prior to reaching Sanawar School. There are beautiful hill tops and we halt there on one of those and spend day.
In winters we carry non-veg and roast there on top green hills. Its so very cool up there but sun is there to help you out and you fire take care of you.
