REINCARNATION
I never had any love for the movies based on re-incarnation, and I really suffered maximum from the movie ’’Ab Ke Baras’’ (It was too horrible). But Karan
Arjun is a far better movie, not only because of a better star cast, but also as it implies more on the relationship between brothers as well as a mother and his sons.

Even if the exact reason for me to choose this movie to write a review on, is actually due to the fact that I am not into much sentimental movies, and I desperately needed to have mother at the core of the story, and I finds one in Karan Arjun. This is one of those movies which has kept following me, as there had been situations where I had to watch this one repeatedly. Now, may be its time to recollect the scenes of the movie!

BACK TO THE STORY
The story takes you back to an old village, where a widow, Durga (Rakhee) and her two sons Karan (Salman Khan) and Arjun (Shahrukh Khan) are living a life of peace. But their uncle Dhurjan Singh (Amrish Puri) comes to know that the two brothers can be an obstacle between him and the entire property of Durga’s husband who was also killed by Dhurjan himself.

This means that Dhurjan adds a few more to his victims list by killing the two sons and leaving the mother in grief. But she still thinks that her sons are not dead and they will one day come back to her and take revenge on the evil Dhurjan.

Unfortunately for our villain, the reincarnation has already taken place as Karan and Arjun are born again as Ajay (Salman Khan) and Vijay (Shahrukh Khan). They live in different conditions and manages to find their lovers in Bindiya (Mamta Kulkarni) and Soniya (Kajol). But even if they live in entirely different cirumstances, they meet one day, and this meeting may not be a memorable one for their mother, as it was a fight which united them.

It doesn’t take them much time to find the roots of their last birth, and they starts the journey against Dhurjan with the support of her mother. Meanwhile, Dhurjan also has the plans of marrying Soniya to his own son, which makes the fight more of this birth.

Meanwhile, Dhurjan is not aware of what is awaiting him! Now the question is: Will our boys get their revenge? Will Arjun be able to save Soniya and marry her? Hope you won’t ask anything about their next possible reincarnation!

OUR PERFORMERS
If we consider the performance, both Sharukh and Salman performed very well. This is one of the few Hindi movies which I saw as a kid, and I remember the time when I supported Sharukh to give a few punches more than Salman!

I am not much of a Shahrukh fan, but I really think that this is the type of role which suits him very well. Meanwhile, Salman is pretty impressive too, and the good thing about him is that he never goes far behind Shahrukh in the acting department, and this is one of his performances which I love to remember.

Kajol has done some good job in a movie which was dominated by a mother and two sons! She certainly got more chance to show her abilities than Mamta Kulkarni. Mamta’s character doesn’t prove to be an integral part of the movie and does nothnig in making any changes to the story. She seems to be there only to make sure that Salman gets a girl as Shahrukh already got one! Well, actually Sabse Bada Khiladi was the only movie in which I think that I really noticed her.

AND CONTINUES.....
Rakhee seemed to play the sad mother with ease and enough tears to support her cause. I think that she spends most part of the movie in tears. As usual, Amrish Puri is really good as the villain, and he has once again made some impact with another negative role, and he is someone who used to be my favourite villain of childhood! Johny Lever and Ashok Saraf provides the much needed comedy factor to the movie.

The movie is supported by some really good music. ’’Yeh Bandhan To’’ is a song which shows more affection and love, more than anything else. The song is well picturized, and ’’Jaati hoon mein’’ is another good one. I remember watching the song lots of times during those early days in Chitrahaar, and I used to love it too! The other songs are just happens to be ok.

I don’t think that Karan Arjun is one of the greatest movies ever. It is not in my top ten list too, but it is certainly something different, and Rakesh Roshan has managed to handle this one quite well. It may not be much of a hit if was released in this century, but its still worth a try more than once because I already watched it about eleven times, all credits go to the cable operators who can’t find any new movies to replace it!
