Half of his wickets came on placid sub-continental pitches, which had nothing to offer his kind of bowling. His batting was as important to the team as his bowling & his 5000 plus test runs indicate that he always delivered the goods. His World Cup winning feat is still India’s greatest cricketing moment. His stats speak for himself. 434 test wickets & 253 One Day wickets. 5248 test runs & 3783 One Day runs. His mammoth 175* was the first one day century for India. His 4 consecutive sixes off Eddie Hemmings to save a follow on is a world record. Besides he is the youngest player to accomplish various doubles like 100 Wkts/1000 Runs & so on. Kapil is a national treasure and we are all proud of his legendary achievements. The Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century award is just a polite understatement.
