Three guesses for anyone who can tell me what the title really means?

Yes, I am one of those who has has the courage to convince my better half to go to a wild life(tiger) sanctuary for our HONEYMOON!

Gone was the thought in my mind to be uselessly romantic(read places like Shimla, Himalayas, Switzerland, Rome, Venice, Paris.endless list:)) I had embarked on a journey to connect with nature and meet the carnivore that scares the S outta you. I was successful and found myself at the train booking counter to go to KANHA WILD LIFE SANCTUARY!

The journey to Kanha is safest by train. Mumbai to Jabalpur. Bus to Kanha. thats it. In less than 40 hours you are in Kanha. Phew!( had to listen to a lot of things from my better half during the journey.the train was delayed just outside Jabalpur rly station for approx 14 hours.) Do I detect some sympathy towards me. I needed it that time(December month). Now we both marvel at the thought of it!

Indeed after entering Jabalpur we had to find a decent accomodation( Hotel) and we did. The food was good. Dont expect service but yes you will be surprised. Next day we started at about noon and tok a bus from the bus station(just for the experience) to Kanha. We had earlier informed the resort(Indian Adventures Wild Life Resort, Wild Chalet) about our delay.(We were accomodated inspite of the season time). Our bus journey was uneventful and I spent most of the time chatting with the driver(special seats as I had my better half with me.oh! the pleasures of being with the fairer sex). The entire journey is filled with beautiful green landscape provided by nature. No tall structures, no concrete buildings.just unhindered natural breathtaking view.

We reached Kanha around 1800 hrs. The drive was uneventful and comfortable. The Manager(ERIC) was there to receive us and we had a great Willys open Jeep to take us to the resort. Eric( I do not know if he is still there, but if he is.) is a complete wild life buff and his knowledge of the jungle, its sounds, animals, habitat is PHENOMENAL. He is a perfect guide to answer anything as stupid as where are the monkeys n this jungle.type of querry with a very straight face and amazing accuracy!

Anyway, when we reached the resort, the sight that greeted us was one of the most wondrous and magnificient! We saw very cute cottages in a cluster with garden chairs in the verandah, lined with bougenveilla flowers and a very rustic verandah with a door lined with night lamps! Picture this. Driven in an open jeep right to your cottage with the sun setting behind it!.(please comment:))

So began our first night, away from the hustle bustle of Mumbai(sharp contrast), in serene, beautiful surroundings of wilderness and birds chirpings! We had some scrumptous dinner in the main dining hall of our resort and then retired for the night.(No WILD guesses here please:))

The next day started as early as 0500 hrs in the open jeep again(the windscreen had frosted ices on it) and into the jungle we went. Wild Chalet is located 4 kms from the core of the jungle which is very scarily close to the heart of the Kanha sanctuary. This sanctuary is popularly known as the NGORO NGORO of Asia. The largest jungle after the Ngogngoro in Central Africa.

Kanha covers a large area of 1, 945 square kilometers, out of which 940 square kilometers form the main park. The altitude of the park ranges from 450 meters to 900 meters above sea level. The temperature, depending on the season, ranges from 0 degrees in the winters to 48 degrees in the summers. So you can now imagine our plight at 0500 hrs for a jungle ride! But the experience was undescribable. The various wild sounds mixed with the monkey hoots, birds chirps was such an incredible tryst with nature. The morning ride did not yeild much as the cold drives the wild animals into finding warm spots till sun up. There are elephant rides available in the resort for extra charges. We preferred the jeep.

The total package was for 3N / 4 days. That meant 6 jungle rides. To cut a long story short, we did not sight a tiger, but did try and follow a trail of his foot steps which led to us seeing baby blue foxes. We also had the luck to watch a Barasingha(12 horned antler, found in abundance in Kanha) decorating his antlers( he digs into the ground and whatever the antlers pierces like dried weeds, leaves etc is called as his jewels) enticing his mate to couple with him. Its exactly the opposite in the concrete jungle.

SO all in all the wild life visit did take me to my roots of being wild and one with nature,  but it also struck a very odd chord of lifes true gift to mankind and the way we are responsible for diminishing it.

Folks Kanha is an experience and I still suggest a HONEYMOON. better late than never!

I have not put a tiger snap becoz I did not see one and could not click one;).
