What is the feature of a typical bollywood masala flick? My immediate thoughts park on these points. 1. At least 5 songs with glamorous dancers from western 2. Lavish sets 3.A super hero and a glamerous
heroine. 4.Some good action scenes. 5. A thin story but definitely without any logic. Avoid any scenes which require one’s serious attention or thoughts. 6. The audience will be going to the film keeping their brain in fridge and logic in car park. Well, if this is your criteria for a film which make you entertaining, yes, Kambakkht Ishq is a masala entertainer, but will not find its place on the top of the order.

Viraj (Akshay Kumar) is a stuntman in Hollywood who is flirting in nature and have a luxurious living style. Simrita (Kareena Kapoor) is waiting her chance to become a surgeon hate the concept of marriage, as her parent’s didn’t had a happy family life. In her eyes, men are only interested in one thing, sex. When Viraj’s brother Lucky (Aftab Shivdasani) marries to Kamini (Amrita Arora) who was a friend of Simrita,Viraj and Simrita were against the relation. From there on, the two individuals continued their fight. Fate had an accidental meeting planned on an operation table of Simrita with Viraj, the first patient Simrita has to operate. Some carelessness happened and that turn to be the twist in the tale and the interval. After the interval, it was more ‘Mangalam,Mangalam’. Watch the film if you feel to know the mangalam mangalam and the rest of the story.

The story of the film was very thin and didn’t have anything new to offer. The writing department was a complete let down. D grade comedies are added in the film often, but it doesn’t help the film a bit. Comedy is not everybody’s take and director failed wherever he attempted doing that.

Akshay Kumar was in super form. The action hero mesmerise us again in the action scenes on which he is a master. Supported by the Hollywood sets and crew he is simply awesome. Akshay however only managed to give an average performance when it comes to comedy where he lacks a talented writer/director. Kareena Kapoor was good in looks and her performance in the initial scenes. Later, however the weak storyline and character let her down. Aftab didn’t have much to do in the film, and he just played around the role. So is Amrita Arora. Javed Jaffrey, Boman Irani & Kiron Kher were limited to guest roles and understandably they could not make any contribution to the film. Special appearance by Sylvester Stallone & Denise Richards added glamour to the film.

Cinematography of the movie is excellent. Action is another area where the film scores a plus. All the fight scenes including by the Sylvester Stallone was superb.
Songs of the film was quite ordinary. Choreographer didn’t have anything new to offer and restricted to the routine ‘as the boss ordered’.

It is high time that the big production houses make a conscious decision to make quality films. They have to assure that there is a good story to make the audience entertained and thereby assure the success of the film. Make ups only can support to a limit.

There had a lot of expensive scenes in the film, filled with glamour and action but all those were there to decorate a weak storyline. Overall, Kambakkht Ishq falls short of expectation. The best I can say about the film is ‘can sit through’ if we go with the least expectations!
