I never thought I’d live to see the day I’d say this, but Karan Johar’s latest movie rocks!
After the latest strings of bubblegum flops from Bollywood being billed as the ‘biggest
movie of the year’ a ‘must see’ and all those other false promises (you know what I mean) I didn’t really have much expectation on Kal Ho Na Ho either. Boy was I wrong.

So what was it about Kal Ho Na Ho that made me come out of the movie theatre smiling?
The amazing story that reached close to home for me.
The story was about larger than life Aman (Shah Rukh Khan) who walked into the life of Naina (Preity Zinta) and her family, turning it 180 degrees from tears to smiles and filling their life with happiness and most importantly love.

Let me share you my story and you’ll know why I loved KHNH so much.

I have a friend (Dani was her name). I knew Dani when I was twelve. She was the most cheerful, most bubbly, most happening girl there is. Nothing and I mean nothing brings this woman down. She was beautiful without being conceited, rich without being arrogant, popular without being snobbish.
I was friends with her for two years before she was diagnosed with lung cancer. After that it was a year of chemo, drugs and hospitals. She had to drop out of school at fifteen and was bedridden for more than half a year.
Dani never let her cancer defeat her. In school she was very active in organising an annual charity drive for an orphanage near our school, the last year of her life she organised it from her hospital bed.
She tutored primary school kids from her bedside and had long conversations with her friends.
Even to the very end she was cheerful and welcoming. There was never a day that I went to visit her when she didn’t have a smile waiting for me. She encouraged me to continue debating when I was ready to give up, resulting in me being chosen to represent my country for UNESCO’s youth parliament in 1999.
When Dani died there wasn’t a life who crossed her path that she didn’t touch with her strength and love. The whole ward of the hospital that she spent her last days mourned for her and kept a weeklong candle light vigil in the room where she died in her memory.
I told you I have a friend, not had at the start of this story. Exactly that, because she still lives in my heart, in my memory.

It sounds like a movie doesn’t it? But that was Dani. An amazing individual that nobody will ever forget.
KHNH touched just that. About a person who didn’t give up on love and life long after life was running out on them. About somebody who tells you that if you’ll just look around once you’ll see that life never did turn its back on you. About an ordinary person who exist everywhere if we care enough to look, there is bound to be somebody in your life with the same zest for love and life won’t be meaningful until you meet somebody like them and allow them to share their love with you.

As for the movie..
Preity was gorgeous and that woman can act circles around any actress in Bollywood any day.
Shah Rukh proves why he is still the best selling actor to come out of Bollywood.
Saif (those who read my five worst actresses review I take it back!!!!) gave an applause worthy performance as well.
The music was fresh, the storyline passé but still entertaining and touching. The cinematography was well executed.

So…. My recommendation? Watch it! Smile, Laugh, Hug your loved ones cause you know what? Kal Ho Na Ho 
