After the super successful Kuch kuch hota hai Karan Johar is coming with Kabhi kushi kabhi gham which from the promos looks to me like an extention of Kuch kuch hota hai.When other directors are trying
to come with differant and realistic cinema Karan johar seems to be stuck with the same old formula of Bollywood.K3G is supposed to be one of the most awaited films of the year(mind you i am least bothered about it)as it boasts of big starcast and probably coz it is so hyped.If Karan johar considers K3G his dream project than why didn’t he go for a good music director?He has used three music directors for this movie,Jatin lalit,Sandesh shandilya and Aadesh shrivastav who is a guest composer but the outcome is very ordinary and below standards for a big film like this.You have the same shadi wala,Sajna-sajni and pyar-mohabbat ke songs,it is so monotonous.God!when will we get rid of all this stuff?The songs have no freshness or appeal and the tunes are recycled and sound like typical Jatin lalit songs.
There are ten tracks in the album including an instrumental.
The album opens with the title song KABHI KHUSHI KABHI GHUM,which is in three versions and has been sung by Lata and Sonu nigam respectively.So do we have any novelity in the song or music?The answer is no coz music directors like Jatin lalit do not want to experiment,they are too happy recycling their earlier hits and thats what makes this song ordinary inspite of some good singing.The song lacks soul and fails to impress.
BOLE CHUDIYAN is a traditional dance number with some punjabi lyrics popped up in between.It has got a catchy tune and grows slowly on you.This song sounds very much like Soni Soni from Mohabbatein but still it is quite a nice and likeable song considering that this album does not boast of a single great track.The song has been sung by a host of singers like Sonu nigam,Amit kumar,Alka yagnik,Udit narayan and Kavita and the singing is pretty good too.
YOU ARE MY SONIYA has music by SANDESH SHANDILYA and the song sounds like a R.D.Burman song remixed and moreover the lyrics are insipid.Though this song has a catchy tune the music director’s attemt at trying to make this song sound modern and hep falls flat.This song is listenable coz of SONU NAGAM’s wonderful vocals.Truly this man can make a ordinary song sound good.
Music pieces seems to be a trend nowdays and so we have the SOUL OF K3G which is a instrumental but is nothing special.And since it is called Soul of K3G it completely lacks soul and is not at all touching.
SURAJ HUA MADDHAM has music by SANDESH SHANDILYA and well i’ld say it is one of the most boring song i have heard off late.It is a poorly composed song and the instumentation is repetative.Even singers like Sonu nigam and Alka yagnik cannot save this song.In one word this song is a torture.
DEEWANA HAI DEKHO sounds exactly like YOU ARE MY SONIYA and has music be the same music director.Now now why on earth do these people have to mix Hindi and english lyrics in a Hindi song.Do they in this way want to sound hip and modern?And if yes than it is a poor attemt indeed.And again it is Sonu nigam’s and Alka yagnik’s vocals which makes this song hearable otherwise it is not the kind of song which is going to stay in your mind for long.
YEH LADKA HAI ALLAH sounds like some marriage song and is again a very ordinary song with no beat or rythym.All the songs sound so similar that at one point of time it starts getting boring.Alka yagnik’s and Udit.N singing is good but then good singing cannot always save a bad song.
The album ends with SAY SHAVA SHAVA which has music by AADESH SHRAVASTAV who is a guest composer.So do you want to listen to a replica of SONA SONA from MAJOR SAAB,listen to this one and you will be amazed at the good work done by the music director in actually copying it(actually sona sona from Major saab was also a Aadesh shrivastav composition).It sounds exactly like Sona Sona.Though the song is racy and upbeat it is so loud that it gets on your nerves.It has been sung by Alka yagnik,Sunidhi chuhan,Udit narayan,Sudhesh bhosle and Amitabh bachchan.Skip this one.
So in a nutshell the music of the overhyped K3G is a DISASTER and i’ll refrain you from buying it coz if you’ll buy it you will regret it.
