Over-hyped, boring at parts but still good.

Pros:
Performances, music, direction.
Cons:
Boring at parts. The last 15-20 minutes could be trimmed.

Karan Johar’s latest movie was ripped apart by film-critics (Some liked it) and was disliked by a majority of people in India. However, it managed to be a hit in India. Talking about its overseas
collections, it has been declared the biggest hit. Was it worth it? Yes and no! Yes - because of the nuanced and strong performances, mature direction and nice music. No - because it was boring at parts (the last 15-20 minutes were somewhat intolerable!). KANK was not worth the hype it created before its release.
It is a typical Karan Johar film. Only this time, the main protagonists, Dev (SRK) and Maya (Rani) are at the wrong side. They have an extra-marital affair. But what is so great about it? Haven’t other directors tackled this theme earlier? Karan does treat this infidelity-issue in a mature manner but he doesn’t give up his typical song-and-dance routine. This is one big flaw we get to see in the movie. We, as the audience, are actually tortured because the movie (especially the second half drags) is boring at parts. The climax is a let-down.

The strongest area in KANK are the performances. Renowned film-critic Taran Adarsh thinks that SRK’s performance in KANK is next to his performance in DDLJ. I’ll disagree with him but yes...SRK is really good here too. He excels in all the emotional scenes, especially during confronting Preity Zinta. He is the undisputable "baadshah" of Bollywood. Rani does very well too. Preity plays her role with utmost sincerity. She is a pleasure to watch in the scene where she asks SRK to leave the house. Abhishek Bacchan is a terrible actor but here, he is okay (all thanks to Karan). Big B as "Sexy Sam" disappoints. He is actually wasted in a role which doesn’t suit him. His role here is in the line of Rishi Kapoor’s in "Hum Tum". Kiron Kher is good. Arjun Rampal, in a special appearance is adequate. Kajol and John make brief appearances in two songs. The cinematography and art direction are good.

To conclude - KANK is not half as good as KHNH (although it was directed by Nikhil Advani, it was produced by Karan), better than K3G and a little below KKHH.
