My gang of closest friends(fourof us) visited Jodhpur and clubbed with it Osian(roughly 60 Kms from Jodhpurto get a feel of Jaisalmer) in October’08. It is the hometown of my dearestfriends and he became the host for us.

Mehrangarh Fort is the best attractionsin the blue city. The view from the fort of the city during the day and atnight is awesome. I would suggest all to have dinner at the fort which isorganized in the terrace during the night and they serve traditional RajsthaniThalis. We could not visit Jaswant Thada but the Umaid Bhawan Place is also an equallyfulfilling destination. Our host has his “haveli” – we used to call his houseby this name in Sojati Gate one of the busiest localities of Jodhpurand the market around will definitely give you a feel of Delhi’s chandni chowk but has a more rusticand earthern feel.

Being a foodie myself, besidesthe various places to visit, Jodhpuris a must place for foodies too. You definitely need to have Mirchi Vada, themost unique amongst Jodhpursnacks besides host of sweets and namkeen dishes. If you are a non vegetarianthen the traditional Rajasthani Lal Maas is for the taking.

The highlight of our trip was thevisit to Osian, 60 kms from Jodhpur, to get a feels of the desert. We were on road at 4’0 clock on the morning to bethere at the earliest to and be free before the day temperature started to hit.It was during Diwali holiday but then the day temperatures there was well above40 deg. The sand dunes in Osian will give you the feel of Desert and therailway passes between dunes, it gives a great view. Osian has a Mata Templeand a Jain temple famous for their architectures. But the best was the earlymorning drive and you could catch up on peacocks and deer’s on the highway. Itwas incredible walk barefoot on the early morning sand and to get the coolfeeling under your feet.

On our way back from Osian wevisited Mandore – popular as Ravans ‘sasural’, the birthplace of Mandodari –his wife. It has a beautiful garden with temples, which according to me wereinspired from the South Indian temple architecture.

As we were hard-pressed for timewe missed visiting the lakes nearby Jodhpur. This is definitely a great gate away from Delhiin the colder months. Once can easily leave Delhi on Friday evening and get back onMonday early morning with a glimpse of the grandeurs of Rajasthan.
