tahir hussains production houses JO JITA VOHI SIKANDAR is one of my all time favorite films and now that i have the opportunity I would like you all to know why I simply love this classic....

THE STORY: The film has a setting in the scenic hillstation of UTTAR PRADESH,Dehradun which is famous for its prestigious boarding schools and naturally this film too deals with the school life...Sanju(Aamir khan) and his localite friends study in MODERN SCHOOL which is a school for localites while Shekhar(Deepak Tijori) studies in RAJPUT COLLEGE, the most prestigious and elite institute of DEHRADUN where children of rich families from all over INDIA come to pursue their education...

Each year an INTER SCHOOL sports meet is held in which RAJPUT COLLEGE has had the upper hand for the last many years thanks to SHEKHAR but its SHYAMLALS(KHULBHUSHAN KHARBANDA)dream that one day MODERN will bring home the inter school trophy which is mainly decided by the 30 kilometere cycle race held in the end for which he has been preparing his elder son RATAN(Mamick) for many years..... Mainly the film revolves around AAMIRs character SANJU who is an irresponsible and lazy teenager who just wants the good thinks in life and a sexy and rich girlfriend...

He choses to ignore ANJALIs(AYESHA JHULKA)love for him because he wants a girlfreind like DEVIKA(POOJA BEDI)who hails from the upper strata of the society...He manages to woo her by impersonating as the son of a rich man... However things take a dramatic turn when he realizes that DEVIKAS love for him was just because of his status and on top of it his brother suffers an accident due to him...SANJU overnight matures and he relaizes his responsiblities......


PERFORMANCES: Aamir khan in the role of a young schoolboy is outright brilliant...His expressions,his comic timing and his innocence simply melt your heart...He is brilliant in the comedy scenes as well as the climax..He has given the performance of his life...

Deepak tijori too has done a great job and this can be called the best performance of his career too...Essaying a villianous role he has done full justice to the role...Mamick too is good in the role of Aamirs elder brother...Ayesha Jhulka looks cute and impresses....Khulbhushan Kharbanda is adequate...

Deven Bhojani and Aditya Lakhia,Aamirs buddies in the film have done a great job too,especially DEVEN BHOJANI who shows he has a flair for comedy...

HIGHLIGHTS: The climax cycle race and Aamirs training prior to the cycle race can be called the highlight of the film..

Apart from the acting,story,screenplay and direction the music was the highlight of the film...THE song PEHLA NASHA can be singled out for its brilliant picturisation and choreography(this being the debut song of FARAH KHAN)....The three songs performed on stage too are good...wheras the title song sounds inspiring and is picturised well....

All in all JJVS is a wholesome entertainer and it forces you even today to reflect back on your days in school...Undoubtedly one of the best films made on this subject and among top films made in the 90’s...
