Jet airways is attempting to and has partially become the de-facto standard of air travel in India. This is the happening place. In the 20 or so times I have flown them in the past 4 yrs I have always seen improvement in some area or the other. Let us go over the different areas one by one:

Ticketing/Check In
On par with Swissair, Singapore and British. The staff is courteous and professional. These are mostly smart young folks just out of college and are willing to give their best. There are usually ppl who will meet you near the gate and direct you to the ticketing window. They are also ready to take your ticket and get the paperwork done should you be in a wheel chair or with a little kid. The usually have adequate windows open so that ppl can be processed quickly. Contrast that with Indian Airlines, which usually has only 1 window with an overworked guy who cannot attend to you properly. This does not mean that they dont have staff. You will usually find several blue-suits (the uniform colour for IA in Delhi domestic airport) running around the terminal. Its just that no one is available when a flight is announced and the crowd starts building up.


Flights

Usually well connected between major cities. Times are convenient. Tickets are on the pricier side but its a price to pay for the superior quality. The planes themselves are well maintained and on the newer side. Upholstry is good (though not as good as Air India). Legroom is on the lower side but still better than Singapore, United etc.
In flight treatment is top notch. Since no domestic journey lasts more than 3 hours, its hard to say how good it will be in the long haul.

Baggage Handling/Post-Processing
This depends more on the airport than the airline. However if your baggage is delayed or damaged I am told that the airline is more than willing to compensate for it.

All in all this company has shown how to run a good airline business. Either they should seriously challenge IA/AI for the position of India’s flagship carrier or the government should take serious steps to improve the AI-IA duo in this sector. Jet surely makes a strong case for privatisation or our airline industry.
