Story:

I bought this book when I was familiar with C/C+ a& Object Oriented Programming and wanted to learn to program in Java. After reading a few chapters I felt that this book is not what I needed. This is a reference book in which all the features of Java are written sequentially in detail with little or no emphasis on their usage in real world scenarios.

So my advice is if you have a working internet connection at your disposal then you don't need this book. For basic familiarity in Java watch some youtube videos or Java introduction given in some websites. Also searching Java reference on Google is far easier than searching through this book.

Only if you are a Java programmer who doesn't have internet can have this book as a reference.

Therefore you should avoid this book if-

1) You are new to programming

2) You are new to Java and have Internet

3) You are new to Java and don't have internet

4) You are a Java Developer and have Internet

Also also this book is so boring & lengthy that you won't feel like reading more after 5-6 Chapters.

If you still wanna purchase this book, I would recommend to search for a pdf version on google, skim through it for a while and then if you still wanna buy, then be my guest.

I will welcome you:)
