Very much English!. Review on Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte

Hi,

I bought this book in one of the way side shop in Chennai for 20Rs. Little did I realize that I would enjoy a lot from it. The story is simple without much turn abouts. What stands apart in this book is the 'English' used and the descriptions of every damn thing in the story. The descriptions are very vivid. Couldn't resist to reproduce a few from the book..

A description about Jane Eyre's mistress..

''Mrs.Reed might be at that time some six or seven and thirty; She was a woman of robust frame, square-shouldered and strong-limbed, not tall, and, though stout, not obese; She had a somewhat large face, the under-jaw being much developed and very solid; her brow was low, her chin large and prominent, mouth and nose sufficiently regular, under her light eye-brows, glimmered an eye devoid of ruth;her skin was dark and opaque, her hair neatly flaxen;her constitution was sound as a bell - illness never came near her; She was an exact, clever manager.''

Another one about lovers..

''A lover finds his mistress asleep on a mossy bank;he wishes to catch a glimpse of her fair face without waking her. He steals softly over the grass, careful to make no sound, he pauses - fancying she has stirred: he withdraws; not for worlds would he be seen. All is still;he again advances:he bends over her;A light veil rests on her features:he lifts it, bends lower; now his eyes anticipate the vision of beauty - warm, and blooming, and lovely, in rest. Some say it is Charles Bronte's own story mended to suit the reader's interest. All along the story, Jane Eyre stands as an embodiment of love, courage and sacrifice. People who have an interest for classic old movies and books should definitely read this masterpiece of Bronte.
