Post ‘Dabangg’ Salman Khan has been having a gala time at the box office as every movie of his went on to make at least 100 crores at the box office and the release date was always confirmed in advance, which was on the occasion of Eid every year. After giving hits like ‘Wanted’, ‘Dabangg’, ‘Ready’ ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Dabangg-2’ and ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ Salman Khan is back with yet another movie but this time the film has not released during Eid. Rather it has released just like Akshay Kumar or Ajay Devgan or Ranbir Kapoor film, which releases as soon as they are ready to hit the theaters.

Jai Ho’ the latest film of Salman Khan is directed by his brother Sohail Khan who has earlier directed him in duds like Hello Brother, Auzaar(both flopped) and the yawning but successful ‘Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya’. So a lot was a stake when Sohail decided to don the mask of director yet again but the magnetic power of Salman at box office, which is a safe bet as boring films like Ek Tha Tiger and Bodyguard went onto make money, would have assured them that their latest offering would definitely succeed. But will it?

Jai Ho’ is about an expelled army officer who believes in helping people and is a firm believer that one man can make a difference. The film is a remake of Telugu film ‘Stalin’, which had Chiranjeevi in the lead role & was directed by one of the most successful directors A. R. Murgudoss and he gets the credit for the story in ‘Jai Ho’ as well.

After about 20 ordinary moments of the film where Sohail tried to introduce his main actors, the film starts its journey on the main plot but is strongly interrupted at regular intervals by the vulgar jokes targeted on the heroine by the young nephew of Salman Khan in the film. I am not sure if we have degraded the standards of jokes that can tickle our funny bone or make us burst into laughter because there was enough laughter in the theater while I looked embarrassed both at the jokes and the fallen taste of the public.

The basic plot of the movie is actually borrowed from Kevin Spacey starrer ‘Pay It Forward’ but lacks the magic because though the story idea is good but the screenplay by Dilip Shukla is not devoid of loopholes. The movie needed a tight script, which one feels was missing as it kept on bringing scenes that can please Salman’s fans only.

Cinematography is good. Music is just average but then one can’t expect soothing or lilting tunes from recent Salman films.

The film brings in many known faces that we know and some have vanished from the memories of people example Nauheed Cyrusi, Varun Badola, Vikas Bhalla, etc. They have small roles that were meant to push the story further and it does to some extent.

Aditya Pancholi & Sharad Kapoor as corrupt cops had nothing special to do & whatever they did was plain ordinary. So was Pulkit Samrat who played the role of an honest cop. Nadira Babbar playing the role of Salman’s mother was on a different wave length altogether hence doesn’t create any impact. Sana Khan, Mukul Dev, Yash Tonk, Ashmit Patel, Mahesh Manjrekar & Sameer .Kakkad were ok. Tabu as Salman’s sister is okay.

Danny Denzongpa and Mohnish Behl did well in short written roles.  Would love to see more of Mohnish Behl though. Daisy Shah the lead actress was introduced in the initial reels exhibiting her dancing skills and that is exactly what she is - a good dancer. She will have to learn a lot about acting if she intends to stay in the industry. Even though she can be given the benefit of doubt considering that this was her debut film but she has shown no signs of acting at all.

It won’t be wrong to say that the entire film is written keeping Salman Khan in mind and he is not a wrong choice to play the role because this is a tailor made role for him, which has a lot to give to his fans with his dances and action scenes. But besides this the film also demanded some serious acting, which gives Salman 6 out of 10 as he did succeed to come out of the shell of typical Salman to an actor Salman. I am waiting for him to do a film that demands only performance with no action or dance, so that he can be judged as an actor as well.

Sohail Khan as a director has always been a victim of filming lengthy scenes and at times has forgotten when to call ‘CUT’ after he has screamed the word ‘ACTION’. Check out any of his earlier directed movies and you will find ‘Jai Ho’ too has fallen in the same category. Though he is far better as a director this time but hasn’t come out of the flaw yet. Moreover the editor too has not used his scissor properly as he is a person who can eliminate this flaw.

In short ‘Jai Ho’ has come out as an above average film, which could have been better had more care was given to the script. I would have to agree that to me this is a better film then Bodyguard and Ek Tha Tiger because the intention to convey a message was right but it needed a serious look without worrying about the taste of the Salman's fans.

Akshay did different with ‘Oh My God’ and ‘Special Chhabbis’ – both were successful. Moreover, they were not released during any festival, yet people liked them.
