It seems that they are deceiving customers by applying some funky updates.
The box will work as long it is under 1 year warranty. When 1 year warranty expires; they will send an auto update to the box which will cause box to NOT work and you will be forced to pay for the replacement.
This is exactly what happened to my box when it's warranty expired.
Right on the 13th month; I start to notice some weird updates and then it started to lose channels. Another auto update and all channels disappeared. I called customer service and they emailed me a firmware update with instructions to install the update. I updated the firmware and I was SHOCKED to see my entire system frozen which never came back up. I contacted the customer service again and they told me it needed to be replaced and I will have to pay for the replacement device.
