I just came back from gold adlabs having watched Iron Man, another offing from Marvel studios, it seems they are on a mission to bring alive almost all comic book characters they have.
I was
curious to know if marvel studios could come up with something different this time moving ahead of the success of spiderman movie series.
The movie starts amidst a convoy of army vehicles moving around somewhere in Afghanistan and Tony stark is back from a missile launch program, when he is attacked by terrorists and held captive to build Jherico missiles for them, he loses his pacemaker in the attack on him and now survives by a device similar to a pacemaker attached to his chest connected by Exide batteries, well maybe our scientists can re-look at technology available to keep hearts pumping for numerous heart patients around the world.
Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) realizes that these terrorists posses weapons of destruction manufactured by his own company, and to this event, 36 hours back Tony Stark is shown to be a playboy and owner of a huge arms manufacturing company who seems to be least bothered by his own business affairs.
Like all superhero movies, the superhero, earlier a normal human being realizes his purpose of living and as the famous line from the spiderman - I movie goes " With great powers come great responsibilities", oh yes, thats for sure for Mr. Tony Stark as well, this movie is low on emotional and romance quotient, Gwyneth Paltrow does fill up for a Lacklusture romantic crush on his boss Tony Stark, playing a sombre and subtle secretary. You can hardly sense any sparks flying between Robert downey Jr. and Gwyneth.
Its started to get common these days with superhero movies where they are posed with a rather frequently occurring situation of either saving their girl they love, or save the world, finally in the end alls fine and its over. Robert downey Jr. has played the role of Tony Stark and Iron Man pretty well, good at delivering one liners. the cast of other actors is kind of okay. The only different thing i liked in this movie is a scene where the Iron Man sets off to save lives of Afghan children and women, being driven off their homes by terrorists. well you hardly see any American superhero doing that !
The way in which the character of Tony stark evolves to be the Iron Man is acceptable and seems practical, with the kind of expertise in arms technology that Tony Stark has, this sets the path right for the story of the movie, somehow i felt the movie loses its grip by the end amongst all action sequences, which have being shot well.
The director Jon Favreau does not leave a hint for a sequel but yes he ends the movie in a rather surprising way than the end of movies we see for a superhero films. Go watch this movie for once and it;s not very bad either, however cannot guarantee how well would the audience in India would enjoy seeing another superhero coming alive on screen, since Superman, Batman & Spiderman have enjoyed a greater fan-fare across the globe, becasue i hardly read any Iron man comics when i was small.
