This book is a collection of nine different short stories. Jhumpa Lahiri is a diasporic writer and it seems that she has poured her heart while writing this collection of short stories. I have read this book several times and stories like "A Real Durwan", " A Temporary Matter", "Sexy", are very appealing in nature. The character of Boori Ma in the story "A Real Durwan" is very heart touching. once she is liked as a Durwan by everybody in the locality but later she is turned out from her job. it seems there is no any space left for her on this heart. she had also a very glorified past but she is hardly believed by anyone. it shows that life keeps on changing. the residents of the locality throw out Boori Ma with her belongings and they start searching another durwan for the locality. In the story "Sexy" we come across Miranda who is a white woman who loves an Indian man Dev. it is very interesting that dev is a married man who has an affinity for Miranda. This story gives us a glimpse of unbalansed human relationships. Sexy is a derogatory term which has been used in the story. This book raises some serious issues of the society. for readers purchasing this book will not be a money waste.
