My mom was diagnosed with colon cancer and she got operated in this hospital in 2004 and follow up treatment in 2005, 2006. She was 70 and considered as high risk for the size of tumor and that, she is also a High BP patient with some kidney complications. I flew from California, US in emergency. Here're my observations and experience:
#1 chief oncologist Dr Ch Mohana Vamsy is among top in state(in 2010, he seems to have started his own hospital, Omega); With God's grace & this doctor's expertise, precision in surgeries, experience saved her.
#2 nursing and sanitary staff were more caring than I expected. In USA, I am used to seeing extremely good care from nursing and sanitary staff and on top of it, they don't take tips. In India, my experience has been. they demand tips and their care is usually not upto mark. but, here nursing staff did not expect or take tips but, they showed not general care but good people skills in working with my mom considering her age. sanitary staff took tips but provided service expected without complaints.
#3 billing dept was courteous. there was social welfare dept who are getting discounts for poor patients who cannot afford full bill etc.
#4 Blood bank was also good
#5 Hygiene was acceptable
#6 Food court was decent
#7 Even pharmacy staff was sensible. they would take medicines back if Doctor changed them etc.
What I did not like though was sometimes, the students(medicos) learning in subsidiary college would come and visit patients. They show off their lack of people skills, experience when dealing with patients or the attendants supporting patients.
Also, the nutritionist / specialist doctors related to patient nutrition were not seemed to well experienced, knowledgeable with potential food complications when patients not only have cancer but diabetes/high-bp/low-bp etc. This is an area that, I depended on myself, Internet and some of my past experience to help my mother take right amounts of protein etc and recover fast.
After her initial surgery, she went back for a minor post-surgery procedure which is also a surgery. and she got good treatment. I was there for 1.5 months during her 1st surgery and recovery and I am glad that we went to this hospital.
My mother, by God's grace is doing well. It has been close to 7 yrs since 1st operation and no signs of second growth of cancer. I recommend this hospital.
