As the third season of Indian Idol catches pace and we come move one step ahead towards choosing our Indian Idol 3  we need to ask a major question  ,  are we doing justice with this

show and using it in a right manner the way it has been used by U.S. American Idol or say UK’s Pop Idol.

A recent study published on the site of top-40about.com shows the extent to which the American Idol has impacted the American Pop Industry.

It writes  “In just 6 years American Idol has permanently changed the landscape of American popular music. Some facts about American Idol winners and contestants on Billboard music charts:

Songs:

·        22 Artists

·        50 Songs on Pop Singles Chart

·        39 Songs on Adult Contemporary Chart

·        17 Songs on the country Singles Chart

·        15 Songs on the R&B Singles Chart

Albums:

·        24 Artists

·        27 Albums on Pop Album Charts”

The list of American Idols who have rocked the charts in the past Six Years with their songs are:

1.      Clay Akien

2.      Bo Bice

3.      Kelly Clarkson

4.      Fantasia

5.      Josh Gracin

6.      Kimberley Locke

7.      Ruben Studdard

8.      Carrie underweood

9.      Elliot Yamin

10.  Chris Daughtry

11.  Taylor Hicks

And the list goes on…………………

Most recently has been the  songs “Never Again” by Kelly Clarkson , “Home-Chris Daughtry” , “Wait for you” by Elliot Yamin is topping the charts. A person who is not aware of the singer’s status will certainly cannot make out that they were just mere strugglers sometimes back.

These American Idols have emerged as a major threat to already established popular singers in American Music industry. Moreover , the past week was a dull week for Pop Music Industry because the Finals of American Idol is on cards. This shows the kind of popularity this show has got among the American Audience.

Now , at the same time when we look at India and compares the situation we find that in the past two Indian Idol the singers cannot be even seen. Neither Abhijeet Sawant nor Sandeep Acharya has come up with any kind of Album that has rocked the charts. If the winners can’t come up then forget about the runners up or third place.

All this raises a question: Is this show that takes the pain of selecting the best talent Singer from the crowd of over a billion has been taken lightly by the participants or Is there a loophole in it or the overall music culture of our country?????

Well , certainly It cannot be said that participants take it lightly as there are thousands of participants who take part and only very few of them make it to the top , who so ever takes it lightly will be thrown out. And the selection concept has been copied from It’s counterpart in West and if it is successful there then it won’t be fair to raise finger over it’s selection procedure.

The whole fault lies in our Music Culture which our country has , in India where music is dominated by it’s film industry and where Pop music has been a new concept as compared to US or Europe the chances of private singers succeeding becomes thin.

Bollywood has it’s own biases and prejudices for singers , the problem comes that if a song  picturized  on a particular actor/actress becomes hit then the singer becomes ultimate choice for song being picturized on the same actor. Here the new singers and talents are blown away by the Producer’s prejudices the same what I feel happened to Abhijeet and Sandeep and various other Indian Idol contestants.

Moreover there is no official Chart system that is followed in India. Like in US we have Billboard where all songs are ranked which are listened the most in US unlike India where we have separate rating for Bollywood Songs , Punjabi Songs , English Songs that too assigned by the channels randomly at their own choice. This again become a major factor for laziness by many Music directors , they don’t have an aim to make it on the charts coz they don’t face any competition from the foreign music or any regional music. That is why we have sometimes absolutely pathetic music/songs coming from Bollywood. If we can do something about it then we can stop some kind of bull**** coming from Devang Patel or someone of that kind.

Let us hope that This time we get the best Indian Idol Who can be our Idol in true sense. Wish u all vote for the best
