The college is established in 1909. It is the premier institute of India, recently in a survey IISC got first place in the list of Indian universities . IISC is well known for it's science and research. If I talk about academic program then initially there was only master and PHD courses but now undergraduate level courses also has been opened in this college, entry in undergraduate level is done on the basis of KVPY and JEE(Advance), and for getting into master(M.Tech, M.S in Aerospace, Mechanical, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Cryogenic, Civil, Material science, Electronics, Electrical etc.) or PHD, student have to qualify Gate exam, and not only qualify but student have to get top score in Gate exam. Apart from these academic program IISC also providing management degree which known as Master in management which taking GATE, CAT, GMAT Score into account to give the admission.
If I tell you about the administration of this college then current director of IISC is Professor Anurag Kumar, and the dean of engineering department is Professor Narasimha Murty, Dean of Science department is Prof. T.N.Guru Row, and the Dean of Undergraduate program is prof. umesh varshney. recently the current president of india "Sri Pranab Kumar Mukherjee" has visited IISC on the convocation ceremony.
Now as far as placement of this college is concern then this college has very good placement like IIT's, and most of the student getting job in core sector, which allowing student to apply their knowledge in their own sector, the companies like Airbus, Boeing, Rolls Royce, Mathwork, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Honeywell, Tata Steel, Bharat heavy electronics limited, Unilever, Comsol, Mercedes Benz, Ansys, Dell etc visiting this college every year to recruit the students.
IISC has many club and associations like women's club, faculty club, astronomy club, freethinkers group etc. Every year IISC students organiz a fest called "pravega".
This college has many alumni in variety of sector's some of them are given like V. Ramachandran who was a great scientist,
C.R Subramanian the former chairman and managing director of Bharat electronics limited, Garish Chandra a well known Mathmatician and physicist, Professor Satish dhawan the former director of IISC, Professor R. Chidambaram the principal scientific adviser to government of india.
