Story:

There are people who simply don’t like reading books and for such people getting started with a Sidney Sheldon paperback is the best alternative. The author writes these 'Masala' kind of books (what a genre!), which has all the ingredients of a Hindi movie potboiler (Revenge, drama, love you name it). ‘If Tomorrow Comes’ clicked big time with the readers and made the author the undisputed king of read-and-forget thrillers.

The author's books, including this one has a similar story line. A wronged woman seeks vendetta on some man/men and finally destroys that character completely. Also in the start of most of his books, the central character is a very simple woman who matures overnight because of the harsh circumstances.

Here the protagonist of the story is Tracy Whitman, a young, naïve woman whose mother’s enemies implicate her on false charges. To serve her sentence of 15 long years, she is put in a high security prison. Within the crime infested prison walls, she has no option but to survive, one day at a time in the horrible environment. She manages to escape from there with the help of a burly, sympathetic prison mate.

After her escape she turns into a con woman who makes these big heists and manages to escape no matter what. The manner in which she hoodwinks people and the police is very smart and interesting. With her beauty and charms, she manages to steal from places as varied as museums, stores et all. My favorite part is the jewel heist that Tracy does in a highly secure European villa.

It goes without saying that somewhere along the line, she does manage to punish her enemies and find her special someone- Jeff Stevens, a fellow partner in crime. Their first meeting is a hoot and quite an interesting section of the plot.

In the story you have con people, conning each other in a battle of wits that is quite exciting. Her escapades are soon noticed by (I-have-my-own-demons-to-tackle) detective Daniel Cooper, who will go to any lengths to apprehend Tracy. Suffice to say that this only sets the stage for a battle of wits that translates into a fun finale’.

The title of the book is relevant because every night is almost like the end of the road for the heroine and she vows to herself that if tomorrow comes, she would do two things. Firstly, take revenge on the people who had wronged her and secondly stop conning people, which is easier said than done.

The book is considered to be one of the must read books for Sidney Sheldon fans and highly recommended cause of the various con incidents, escapades and the non-stop action. So if you are on the lookout for some fastpaced, dhamal reading pick ‘If Tomorrow Comes’.
