Buying an insurance for you and your family is somewhat normal these days. Earlier thgis field was dominated by LIC, however, now there are multiple private players vying for the customers' attention. I too know someone who has an insurance from the ICICI. His experiences, however, were not as rosy as painted by the ICICI company.
He had a car insurance and a health insurance from the ICICI. He had to relocate to some other place in Delhi, so he asked the ICICI official to change his RTO office. However, his request was not paid heed at. He wrote to them multiple times and even sent all the documents, still his request for the change of RTO office was not looked at.
In addition to this, one of my relatives has an ICICI Lombard General Insurance for his health. Sometime ago, he met with a small accident and had to be hospitalized for few days for nursing his injury. Since, his insurance had cashless facility so he was not particularly worried about the charges.
Post his treatment, he went to the insurance office and inquired about the compensation. The ICICI officials kept on ignoring him. I also went him with the office and the officials were pretty rude. They kept on asking weird questions from my relative and told him to wait till the next week for the compensation. Frustrated by this, he threatened him with legal action. Then, he was awarded some compensation( not the full amount though!).
Overall, make sure you check the facilities provided by the insurance you intend to buy and especially, check the claim settlement ratio of the organization before buying the insurance.
