I bought a i10 Sportz during my trip to India last year (2008) and it stayed with me for the lenght of my stay in India (around 4 months). I drove it for 12000 Kms in those 4 months and am very pleased
with it’s performance. Before returning i gave it to my dad and he likes it as well.

I drove the car in almost all kinds of roads. Based in Patiala, Punjab i drove it to Manali, Manna, Jaipur, Delhi and did about 30 trips to Karnal (in-laws). Longest one day drive was apporx 600 kms of which 450 kms were in the mountains. Most of the trips were on GT 1 going towards Karnal a sweet 125 kms run on a four laned highway. Did little in the city driving but was please with the mileage i got.

How i selected i10:
I did not want to buy i10. I did not even knew it exited. I heard my dad tlak about it and one of his friends also recommened it. So i added it to my test drive list. I test drobe dZire, Swift - diesel, Fiat diesel, Tata Vista. Before the test drive i wanted to buy Swift but after driving them i liked Fiat diesel. Now this being democracy i got my wife to test drive these cars as well. She wanted a petrol car - go figure, so even though she liked Fiat she did not want to see it in the driveway. I was going to be in India for a short time so i did not want something that would depriciate a lot and with half a dozen ther reasons in mind decided to test drive i10 and Fiat once more. Well, with cargo load of ifsy’s and butsy’s i bought i10.

I will divide my review in the same categories as the headlines above and try to give as much meat (and for vegetarians among us mushrooms) as possible.

Space Inside: It has fair amount of space inside as long as you do not have three large suitcases and four carry ons. No really, between my wife, our daughter, her maid and myself plus all the bags inlcuding a potty chair we would carry around with us we had no serious space problems. I am not too tall but i figure it has enough leg and head room for someone upto 6 feet 1 and then maybe it is a bit tight.

Dealer Satisfaction: Well the sales guy was nice. he did organise for me to get couple of test drives and was courteous even after the sale but creating a bill took almost a week! Also i bought fog lamps which took another 8 weeks to be delivered and installed. This in my book is not acceptable. I was told the issue is at OEM’s door, but do i give a rat’s ass. I have paid and i want my stuff.

Fuel Consumption: Very satisfied. I am used to close to 7.5 Kms per liter and when i got 17.5 driving in mountains you cannot begin to imagine how i felt. As i got used to higher mileage i found that irrespective of hoe many people i carry if i do not push this baby beyond 90 and no hard accelration or deaccelration it is willing to give me 20 KMS/L. How cool is that. Once i did push her past 130 and it showed in the mileage. AC was always on even in December.

Comfort: Well, it is a small car and the space was adequate. Seats were comfortable, AC was great and i must mention about the location of the sgear shift. It is absolutely perfectly placed. If i were redesigning the car that is one thing i will not change. I causes some issues if the driver has to use the oassanger side door but still ergonomically i give it fulll marks. Another thing i was impressed with is the low beam adjuster. Excellent feature. The fog lights, when i finally got them were very effective. very useful in January as i drive to Rishikesh and Ludhiana at night. Stereo was ok has aux for your ipod, which is nice. Don’t confuse it with your nakamichi or bose but it was clear and as it was factort installed no addities in the dashboard. I am used to much refined ineriors but still i would give it a good grade for comfort.

Reliability: For the 4 months i had the car very reliable, everything worked.

Looks: very sweet looking car. Mine was champaign gold. pleased with the looks.

So folks when i was about to return and car prices were depressed i got people who were interested in buying it but the finacial hit i was going to get made me give it to my dad. He sold his old santro - 10 years 43000 kms -- hahaha.

Overall i recommend this car as a smooth drive and as distances are not too long in India anyways and this car has good breaks it was more than sufficient for my purpose.
