I bought this Beast(Getz CRDI 110 BHP) on 25th July 2008.(There was no option for 2008 in this site, so selected 2007.) anyway how can I forget that day, I was getting my DREAM CAR. I know how much time it took for me to convince my family that we need to upgrade our car. Actually this car was made for me. I wanted a simple car which I could use for both day to day city traffic and also for burning smoke on highways, and there was no other car in the market which could do both these jobs as excellently as my GETZ.hehe.
Below is the list of 5 things that I required from my new car.
It should be powerful.(110 horses -I am more than satisfied with that.0-100kmph in 8 secs FLAT.)
It should have space.(Well I have lots of relatives who visit our home regularly so I needed lots of headroom, leg room and the biggest boot in the segment.300litre)
It should have a good ride quality and should be comfortable for long drives.(When I drive at 80kmph, it feels like 60kmph, that is what I call SMOOTH)
It should have good interiors.(Trust me its even better than Verna or accent)
I need good mileage(I am a very kanjoos guy)-I get 15.53kmpl in city:) that too before second service.
Below is the list of what I wanted and what I didn't want in the car.
I wanted company fitted wheel covers(no alloys), body coloured bumpers(with side moldings)
All four power windows with child lock
The ac vents should have the feature to be completely closed. I had a hard time cleaning the dust from those vents in my Santro.
I DID NOT want, body coloured outside mirrors & door handles(they are a pain to replace)
I DID NOT want rear wiper, defogger also fog lamps(I hate it when kids play with the rear wiper-I had that in my santro before)
U can see what my demands were….and I could not have got a better car IT met every single demand. U might thing how stupid I am and say that why the hell this guy doesn’t need the rear defogger or fog lamps. Well I may be stupid, but I am practical. I had all this stuff in my santro and it was almost a waste, I never used to use it. And the fogs lamps don’t make a difference in fog. This is my personal experience. You might differ. Anyway.
Now lets come to the practical stuff. I have had the car for more than 5 months now and have completed 7000 kms. The second service is due at 9000 kms, in which the engine oil and filters would be changed. The first service will never effect the mileage since they just check for oil leakage, wash the car, top up the coolant and give the car saying its for FREE.very funny.nothing is free.in the second service they will charge for everything that they put in my car.anyway.
The car is a ROCKET on wheels.I had heard that this car goes from 0-100kmph in 9secs. But trust me I tried it myself and I was shocked.and I would love to shock u too.8 secs FLAT:). Actually I had a Santro(2000 model) which was okie for city races with the WagonRs, Altos, Zens.etc but I used to hate it when an accent or some midsize car would show me dust and zoom away.
LOOK HOW THE TABLES have turned.now my competition is with CIVICS, ACCORDS, SKODAS and u name the BIG fellows of that segment. I have seen shocked faces of the drivers of these cars, when they see me zoom pass them.they are like(WHAT THE HELL, what is under the hood of that GETZ, seems like a rocket engine.).anyway you might have known by now.how much fun I am having.with this car.
Coming to mileage-Before 2000 kms the car gave me a mileage of 10-11kmpl. it was fine with me since it is diesel and diesel being cheaper than petrol, I was spending almost the same money for fuel as before.(SANTRO) but after completing 3000kms, the car was very different, I mean the noise kinda reduced, the mileage increased to around 14kmpl and the pickup was much better. Actually I was very careful about the so called(engine run-in period) so before completing 2000 kms I didn’t strain the engine. I kept the engine RPM below 2000 at all times….even with that I could easily touch 95kmph in the fifth gear….haha, now u can imagine the power this car has. Anyway, now I get almost 16kmpl in city with 30% insane driving and 70% gentlemen driving. I have driven it at 180 KMPH……NO I AM NOT LIEING, and I did that with 5 friends and AC on. I could attempt that only because of the wide and straight road. GREATER NOIDA EXPRESSWAY. And the most important thing….the was not able to cross 180 not because the car was stressed out, it was because of some traffic ahead. The engine was ready for more thrashing…: I will try to touch 200 one day. I need a long stretch of road.
