THE SURE KICK TO DEATH ----------------------------------------- TOBACCO AND SMOKING ----------------------------------------- MY SILVER JUBILEE REVIEW -----------------------------------------
This
is my 25th review and I thought I should write about something that would be use to our society. I may not be able to reach the whole world, but atleast all of you guys in this family of mine, Mouthshut, would read my review and spread the message in your own reviews. Tiny drops can eventually fill a bucket. So we can hope.
Hope you wont say that I havent pepped up the review. This is a grave danger facing the human race and I cant figure out any way to pep up the situation.
This review was better up to the occasion if it was put around May 31, the World no tobacco day. But it guess, I topic like this assumes importance every day. Tobacco is responsible for the death of one in every ten adults. It causes about 13500 deaths a day. It is estimated that by the year 2020, about in million people will die every year due to the intake of this weed in different forms. The figures are based on newspaper sources. Though they may seem shocking, they are not far from the bitter truth. Unless, we the future generation decides to act in the living present.
According to the Indian Council for medical research, the cost of treating tobacco related diseases like COPD, CAD and cancers was 2776 crores. The government of India has taken a bold step to ban tobacco use by enforcing the Cigarettes and tobacco products act 2003. by the total co- operation of the people, the goal can be realised.
What are the main forms of tobacco available in the market today?
Beedi, Gutka, Zarda, and cigarette are the main forms of tobacco available today. But there are many other forms available illegally which I have no idea about. So please pardon my ignorance. You should ask any Goonda mawali guy for that. (Sorry lallu for using your trademark, but these guys deserve to be called that)
What are the bad effects of the use of tobacco?
There are 43 known carcinogens in tobacco smoke. Where does this all go? To the lungs of the smoker. What are carcinogens? Carcinogens are the agents that cause cancer. Smokers have a 22 percent more chance to develop a malicious tumor. Do you guys want to cancer patients? What a stupid question? That is why you dont smoke. Good guys. That is why we are a family at mouthshut.
Smoking is also known to be one of the primary reasons of premature hair fall. It also causes cataract. So there is no way you are going to be able to see the beautiful world by the time you are 60. But that is for a potential, not for all you wonderful guys.
Smoking is also learned to cause many other diseases like heart attack.
Now the real bad effect is on the passive smokers, who are subjected to the problem by no fault of theirs. When a guy is smoking next to you, remember, you are also smoking with him. Not only you are going to be affected, but also your children and the next generation are going to be affected. Smoking causes infertility to a large extend.
Smoking has a very bad influence on women and girls and the fact is that they may develop all kinds of cancers. Also it may cause infertility and the reproductive ability is lost at an early age. The harmful chemicals in tobacco are sometimes so stable that they undergo the process of biomagnification, and are also passed on to the children from their mother during breastfeeding. No mother would want to have her child suffering, so no girl should think of smoking, and should be around any guy who smokes. For the passive smoke can also be very harmful for the ladies.
But smoking causes the body to enact a dependency on it and so the smoker has to smoke. He may think of stopping the habit once and for all, but may do otherwise while undergoing the tough symptoms. So a person has to be very determined to save himself from the jaws of death.
How to quit smoking?
There are several ways. The methods depend from person to person and also on the dependency the body has on the intake of nicotine. Withdrawal symptoms are the main problem that is going to make your decision a very tough one, but it is goint to be worth the effort.
1. Immediate stoppage: This method was adopted by my father. He had the bad habit, but once I was born, he understood that I would have to suffer. He took a bold decision not to smoke and has kept his word till date. I am proud of his courage, and the fact that he loves me so much.
2. Gradual stopping: This is one of the most effective methods. Reduce the number of cigarettes in a day and finally within some months you will be able to quit the habit permanently. One very good advantage of the method is that it minimizes the withdrawal symptoms caused by the dependency of the body on nicotine.
3. Nicotine replacement: this way nicotine is supplied to the body in small doses. But this is better done under medical supervision.
4. Tablets: the drug bupropion hydrochloride helps reduce the withdrawal symptoms. But as I mentioned earlier, some of the information has been gathered from the newspaper and this is one among that. So, don?t take my word for it.
5. The family should play an important part in making a smoker stop his smoking urge. A smoker should not be treated badly, but he has to be loved and made to realise what he is missing. So that he can make a strong decision to quit smoking for good, and stick to the decision for the rest of his life.
My father quit smoking for me. And I am proud of him. If there is any one among you who smoke, do you want your loved ones to say that they are proud of you? Think about it.......
QUIT SMOKING. ENJOY THE FULL BENEFITS OF THIS LIFE.
