'How to win friends and influence people' was written by Dale Carnegie in 1936.
This book explains mainly 5 principles to make friends and influence people. But theses principle only talks about the one side of the coin and if you will blindly follow them in real world, you will only be get hurt. Below I have explained the 5 principles and their advantages explained in the book, along with disadvantages of them observed by me.
1) DO NOT CRITICIZE:
Author says, don't criticize people if you want them to love you, because nobody likes to be criticized.
DISADVANTAGE:
If you never criticize anybody. People will start thinking that you don't have any knowledge. Thus they will stop respecting you. Also if your are not happy with somebody's behavior and still you don't criticize them, you give them courage to behave more badly with you.
2) ACCEPT YOUR MISTAKES:
Author says, if you commit a mistake, and somebody has caught you red handed, accept your mistake immediately. By doing that you can avoid a fight, as accepting your mistake make that person forgive you.
DISADVANTAGE:
Many a times you are not guilty until and unless you accept your mistake. If people have observed that you accept the mistakes easily, they will start making you an escape goat.
3) APPRECIATE OTHERS GENUINELY:
Author says, if someone does something for you or you observe some qualities in someone, genuinely appreciate them. That will make people love you and also they will always be ready to help you.
DISADVANTAGE:
If you will appreciate people too much, even if you appreciate genuinely, they will start thinking that you are a bootlicker and you want to take some advantage from them, and they will start avoiding you.
4) BE GENUINELY INTERESTED IN OTHERS:
Author says, If you want people to like you, be a good listener and instead of talking too much just about yourself, ask people about them, their skills, their interests etc.
DISADVANTAGE:
If you will be to much interested in somebody. They will start ignoring, avoiding you and taking you for granted.
5) SMILE:
Author says, if you want people to like you, smile when you meet and make first eye contact with them. It will make them feel that, you are happy to meet them and, you like their company.
DISADVANTAGE:
Some times when you make a I contact with someone and start smiling, instead of thinking that you are happy to see them they may interpret that you are smiling at them. so be care full while smiling.
