Hugh Laurie's impeccable Dr. Gregory House

I cannot stress the title enough. Hugh Laurie who was a regular cast member of BBC's Blackadder(some of which I am catching on in BBC Entertainment), a comedy series by Rowan "Mr. Bean" Atkinson would be the last person you could picture playing Dr. House. The American, limping, at times sadistic, pain killer addicted and "Medical Sherlock Holmes" is however owned by Hugh Laurie.

Dr. House is a brilliant doctor who diagnoses difficult patients whose symptoms reveal several diseases at once or nothing connected to the true disease. This is something like a medical "CSI". But, rather than testing shirts, shoes and small particles in a lab with music playing, the show is livened by the strength of it's characters(and the cast).

Dr. House besides being brilliant is agnostic(or atheist) and rationalizes everything. He cannot change habits(like demanding his blood stained carpet back in one episode), depends much on his friendship with Dr. Wilson(played by Rober Sean Leonard) and always tries to get into the heads of his assistants. But, what lies beneath all that is warmth and caring. Especially with Wilson, his behaviour sometimes turns almost childish.

He routinely sends his team to investigate the house of patients for items that might have caused the symptoms. Though he asks for opinions from his assistants, he always tries to refute their answers. At times, he is manipulative having an in-depth knowledge of the person he deals with(like recruiting #13 in Season 4 by making Cutty, the chief Doctor pushing him to have a woman doctor in his team).

He also rejects the idea of God because God cannot be rationalized in his world. He needs a reason for everything. At times, he goes to extremes(like almost shocking himself to death to test the patient's theory that he has been to heaven).

It's better to see a few episodes than I going on and on about this.
